Machamp's attack and bulk remain the highest among his brethren. Sure, many outspeed him (same could be said with Conkeldurr) but few can have similar balance of dishing out damage AND surviving hits. You can also run support instead of all-out offense especially in doubles (see VGC seniors championships 2013/2015). Of course this is relative to the other pokemon relevant to the thread. I don't deny that overall the guy has lost most of his former glory when even Conkeldurr has as well

I don't see how Primeape is better than Passimian except in speed. Passimian hits harder (120 to Primeape's 105), has better defenses (100, 90, 60 to Primeape's 65, 60, 70) and has access to some similar moves. Primeape is a speedy U-Turn user though. I'll give it that.

Intimidate is a broken Ability, even more than in singles.

Hitmontop is a bulky pokemon with a very great supportive movepool (Wide Guard, Feint, Fake Out, Helping Hand, Quick Guard), priority to off-set is low speed (Sucker Punch, Mach Punch, Bullet Punch) and it hits decently hard with Close Combat (OHKO'd Mega Mom at neutral)

In VGC 2016, Hitmontop was using Wide Guard, to wall Eruption/WaterSpout/DazzlingGleam from the Primals and Xernias, Fake Out for pressure, Feint to break through mindgames (and KO Smeargle after it went to it's sash) and utilized Intimidate to Keep the damage output from Groudon and Mega Kangaskhan at bay, while also allowing your own Kyogre to live Ferrothorn's Power Whip.

The key Item in 2016 was Eject Button, because it allowed Hitmontop to get two Intimidates off pretty much always.

The metagame was so high damage, that most of the time, your Sitrus Berry Pokemon would just die regardless, so the pros preferred to take one hit and get a switch over saccing Hitmontop, especially if it doesn't have protect.

No problem anon, but I have to mention that Hitmontop isn't really uncommon, at least for pros. It has been used in VGC ever since 2008, making top 8 in multiple years.

If Hitmontop is legal in a format, it is always strongly considered, simply due to how useful it is. The same goes for Scrafty; Intimidate + Fake Out on the same teamslot is very useful to have (and the reason why so many people are holding out for HA Incineroar).

It's okay in VGC this year. Hit Porygon decently hard, has Fake Out and is slow enough for Trick Room.

If you want a Trick Room fighting type, it's probably the way to go. Crabominable is bad and Machamp lost a lot of use with the nerf to confusion.
