Im pretty genwunner about digimon. I don't pretend that the other seasons and digimon don't exist, but I generally don't talk about them as much. I say Im a huuuuuuuuge digimon fan, but in reality I haven't watched the latest 3 or 4 seasons. But I still collect a ton of shit from season 1.

I think a TRUE genwunner is an adult who abandoned it in their early teens then later on keep talking about how much they love it still yet only know gen 1. They think it ended there. They think that's TRULY the only pokemon generation, even though we have more gens (and pokemon) after gen 1 than gen 1 or gen 1 and 2 combined (so theoretically pokemon consists more of the installments than it does the original series, invalidating their delusion). It was especially shown with Pokemon GO, where they said the game was better than the mainline, that it kept to the origins, that they love pokemon now just as much as we do ETC. All those fucking imgur posts where they'd convert pokemon into SU characters, but only fucking use gen 1. The same with the pokemon in hoodies pics we've all seen - only gen 1. Seriously, the reason why it's so prominent in pokemon is BECAUSE of the massive childhood hype, and then the massive decline in most kids trying to fit in. Those kids become sad peoople who cling to what's trendy, but never too much because they're mostly fickle as a generation, extremely driven by trends.

Super was pretty much the best 2D game though. Fusion and Zero Mission came close, but then we didn't have any more 2D Metroids. The fact the series slowly crept away from the "metroidvania" aspect more and more from Prime 3 onwards only made this worse.

Castlevania has it a bit, with the original fans vs the metroidvania fans, but then after that everyone was miffed with Lords of Shadow and then Konami shat on Castlevania so yeah.

In many ways I agree with you, I'd even go as far to say the P2 is a golden standard to how to make a follow up to a finished story that brings in a new cast. Not only that, I also believe that it had a better combat system and story. However, P2 felt way too short and give me little reason to replay it. This was probably because of the split between IS and EP, but having it be 2 games really takes a lot away from it.
