Pretty sure the cart rating system is literally just standard Elo.
Showdown's system is even worse because of the Elo floor. Notice that there are people near the top of the showdown ladder and at 1600 that have the same Glicko.

Has anyone made alolan-golem work? Seems like it'd be an absolute beast in electric terrain, what's its major drawback besides shite weaknesses?
>>
So, what's the deal with Arcanine / why is it so popular?
>>
>>31418328
Strong switch-in to fairy moves + kartana, bulky, access to a good range of strong coverage moves, good options for lowering your opponent's damage output (intimidate, snarl and wil-o-wisp), fast compared to the metagame as a whole, and is also able to prevent trickroom teams from setting up. All in all, extremely versatile.
>>
>>31416665
Try nihilego over gengar. Sash or life orb. It'll help with arcanine. For muk, you could tech a groundium z earthquake somewhere, but I don't think any of those pokemon learn earthquake. You'd have to replace something, but I don't know what. Also, use pastebin.

>>31413436
Have you ever looked into rating systems? It's literally impossible to make one that doesn't either give people with a lot of time to play more games an advantage, or discourage people from playing after a few wins.
A player having a roughly equal W:L ratio just shows that the matchup system isn't actually that bad.

I've been playing Punch Out and now I really want to kick ass with Crabrawler because fuck Crabominable. Can I go Jolly with Choice Scarf and have it do decent?
>>
>>31425630
No.
Its so slow that it will still suck with scarf, but its faster than some trick room pokemons so even with that its shit.
Not to mention it has shit offensive stats before evolution, and its frail as fuck, eviolite wont help it either.
IMO you could as well use a magikarp
>>
>>31425630
Adamant 252 spe with a choice scarf reaches 172.5 effective speed
Jolly 262 spe with a choice scarf reaches 189 effective speed

For reference,
Jolly Garchomp = 169 speed
Nihilego = 170 speed
Kartana, Ninetales = 177 speed
Raichu, Gengar = 178 speed
+1 Adamant Gyarados = 199.5 speed
Timid Tapu Koko, Aerodactyl = 200 speed
+2 Golduck = 272 Speed

It really is quite shitty in every stat though. Don't be surprised if its Close Combats to do about 20% to most of the metagame.

Interesting. I'm testing out a team right now that has golem-A and electric terrain; with access to galvanize, in electric terrain a move like return gets a life orb + focus band to it's damage output, to an attack stat that is already reasonably high (125). Good stuff.

I went to a decent amount of tourneys in Argentina. Luckily they are not that far from me, usually an hour and a half, so I can go to PCs if I have nothing better to do. I do try to go to bigger tourneys because the attendance is much better usually, so I get to play new people, also I get to see my friends that play more seriously than I do.
The community here is rather small and kinda shitty at times, so new players are a rare sight and they usually don't come more than once, sadly.
Overall, I'd say participating in tourneys is a good experience, especially if rounds are bo3 since that's great practice, and you get to play with others face to face, talk with them about their teams or anything really, and possibly making friends.
There's also the crybabies and faggots that will follow you around after you beat them telling you how you haxxed them and all that shit, and other players making scenes and such, but that's usually a minority.

>>
>>31442518
That's an insane amount of special bulk. I've run some calcs and these are my findings:

252 Hp / 108 Def
252 Garchomp Poison Jab is a 2HKO always
252+ Arcanine has a 50% to OHKO

252 Hp / 116 SpD
252+ Tapu Lele Psychic has a 100% to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain
252+ Tapu Lele Z-Psychic has a 12.5% to OHKO

252 Hp / 140 SpD
252+ Tapu Lele Z-Psychic never OHKOs

Running this amount of defense leaves almost nothing for Attack. Luckily you still hit like a monster truck.
>>
>>31442494
Here's mine. I don't quite remember the calcs anymore, but I'm pretty sure it can surivive Z psychic outside the terrain, plus a bit more to make porygon2 not raise its SpAtk and make it easier to outstall it with leech seed and horn leech.
I had plenty of ways around Garchomp and Intimidate so surviving poison jab wasn't much of an issue to me

Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 4 Def / 172 SpD / 4 Spe
Ability: Grassy Surge
Level: 100
Adamant Nature
- Leech Seed
- Nature’s Madness
- Horn Leech
- Protect
>>
>>31443139
yeah I found that 76+ Atk lets you OHKO Tapu Lele with Wood Hammer under Grassy Terrain. I agree that Bulu's physical bulk is fine and with all the Intimidaters and WoW availability. Garchomp won't be able to OHKO anyways.

Your set does let you survive Z-Psychic. I do like your set stops P2 Download boost from threatening you with Ice beam, but I feel like Return P2 is going to surge in usage because of Georgia.

Mind if I use your set as a base for future reference?
>>
>>31443228
yeah of course, use it as you see fit. I'm sure it can be optimized a lot.
Keep in mind I made a bulky one for longevity, since it could support my main attackers with nature madness and still do real decent damage with horn leech. Also, I just remembered it can also take a Hurricane from Pelipper even if you take some EVs

I think Wood Hammer is too strong to not pass over for Bulu. but I feel like Bulu's bulk is its most important asset with all the free recovery he applies. I was doing calcs for the past hour and forgot to consider P2's Download which your set is tailored for.

I feel like I would use your set, but Wood Hammer over Nature's Madness or Leech Seed. Probably Nature's Madness, so I can regain more health with Leech Seed. Superpower seems to go against Tapu Bulu's prerogative, but is probably his best coverage option other than a Scarf Rock Slide variant.
>>
>>31443352
I do like the fightium Z Bulus that are popping out here and there, but I still find them kinda weird. Wood Hammer is crazy strong, definitely a strong choice (and probably better than nature madness at what it does since it has 100 accuracy and does over 50% to most things)
>>
>>31443441
P2 really warps this meta around it to cause such things to happen I believe. I wonder why Scarf-Machamp isn't used this format? I believe it was fairly popular in past vgcs. Is the Fairy presence too much?

I'm not sure if it's because of the fairies, they're mostly the final nail in the coffin of fighting types. I think it's because they have nothing to hit. They were valuable because they dealt with M-Kang. Now, the only normal type is P2, which is almost impossible to OHKO anyway.
Also, Machamp doesn't really have much to set it apart from other Fighting types. Pheromosa is fast and has Ice Beam (and can be mixed), Buzzwole is Stronger and Hariyama has pretty much everything Machamp has plus Fake Out and Feint.
That said, I could see a Machamp set with Close Combat/Cross Chop, Knock Off, Ice Punch/Stone Edge and Protect/Wide Guard with either Guts or No Guard be useful in some teams, but overall seems like it wouldn't do so well in the meta. Passimian could maybe be the best fighting type if it had Defiant, but even then I think it would struggle a lot to be useful.

I want to use Mimikyu and Celesteela in the same team, any suggestions?

I was thinking on something in the lines of Substitute+SDance Mimikyu with the Celes thowing stuff at them. The rest of the team would be things to counter (was thinking on lele, a-ninetails/lapras/fini, arcanine, magnezone, garchomp). I'm really new to this stuff since gen7 is the first generation for me to play online.

Pls no bully too hard.

Mimikyu is better off as a trick room setter and z-move Lele killer, and even then since it got popular because of that people started knowing how to deal with him. It's not a huge offensive presence.

More or less happened to Celesteela, just like with Mega Mom everyone now knows how to deal woth with her, she's still good but you need to be careful in using her now.

The best suggestion I can give is to test the team yourself because that's really the best way to improve the team.
Also cute Remimi.

That's kinda a downer, I really liked to use them not because they are strong, but mostly because they are my favorite from this gen, and I had the idea that they might also work well together.

And yeah, I also need to test the team first, I'm still EV training and breeding stuff still so I really haven't bothered using showdown yet but I guess it's time to start doing it.

Thanks anon, take a dancing flan.

Thing with Celesteela and Mimikyu is they very much rely more on the players ability to position than anything. A Celesteela with a 1 turn advantage is one of the easiest win conditions in the game due to the nature of SubSeed setups and the raw power it has in it's actual offense. There is simply no substitute for finishing a team and simply taking it to Battle Spot and gaining experience with other teams you might face.

Also Flan a shit

>>31444131
It has like absolutely no offensive presence which means most of the time I just ignore the thing whilst it pointlessly struggles.

I have seen one interesting set at least in Binding Band + Infestation which actually does some heavy damage. But it kind of conflicts with it's best ability, gets negated by subs and doesn't fix that it's still elec and psychic weak in a meta where Koko and Lele exist.

>>31443441
I don't even understand the point of that. Superpower doesn't even come close to a OHKO on Pory2 wheras Z-Wood Hammer does and as long as Pory2 has pulled off the TR it's already done it's job effectively winning that turn.

I reckon Z Superpower isn't actually for Pory2 so much as it's intended for Steel types and Goodra really because even regular Wood Hammer hits slightly harder.

Bloom Doom from Bulu it's very very strong, but having both Wood Hammer and All Out Pummeling over Wood Hammer and Super Wood Hammer has it's benefits. Opponents with Steel types might feel safe against Bulu and either ignore it or predict a switch, so you can deal a good chunk of damage if not KO them with that.

Goddammit.

I wish Showdown only showed only the really usable moves when you pick VGC17 as the tier in the teambuilding window.

It hurts whenever I go to Krookodile's window and see Knock Off as a move it can learn.

All of my why...

>>31450453
None.

Problem is HP really is far too weak without hitting x4 weak, you're better off using anything but HP.

Like Nature Madness to soften it up for your partner to finish, Sky Drop to take it out of the picture for a turn, switch out to something else, Protecting etc.

It's one of those scenarios where I think it's just better to admit defeat, move on and find something else to back Koko up like how some people use Z-Psychic Raichu for the OHKO.

TPCi has really JUSTed the circuit this year. 3 big tournaments in England and not even a regional in Italy, increased fees, higher CP threshold for Worlds, unclear as fuck on prizes and so on. How are new players encouraged to join the scene like this?
>>
>>31452654
I had literally no idea Brazil played VGC.

In Latin American the countries with a sizable playerbase are Argentina, Chile and Colombia as far I know. Hell, from what I'm checking they just started having official play THIS year.

Just what the fug man. I was planning to attend the this one but fuck Brazil.

As someone from Argentina I'm pretty sure we have a rather small playerbase, though our top players did fairly well in worlds and london. For sure behind Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru and quite possibly some others.

And apparently there's some drama about "paid content" on TwitterVGC now because this Japanese site started to put reports and stuff behind a paywall.

>>
>>31452878
Well, from what I saw, which is not much because Twitter is a clusterfuck and it's nearly impossible to have proper discussion on it, it was the usual baaaaw paid content will make players less likely to join in/no it'll be good for the good players because they will feel rewarded for writing, etc. The same shit that always goes when pay2for something happens.

But seriously, fuck Twitter, what an awful place for a "community" to make it it's mainstay place. I miss forums.

You almost certaintly cannot qualify for Worlds without 2016 preseason poins and Internats travel unless you get 1st in every other lower tier event you go to.

Which is an almost impossible task to do in a game like Pokemon with significant RNG factors. Unless you're in an area where only you know what you're doing.
>>
>>31454302
What's wrong with that? Sounds pretty reasonable that only the winners of events are the only ones are the ones capable of qualifying to where the best of the best is.
>>
>>31454312
Not that anon but the problem is that since qualifying requires 500 points and winning a regional tournament gives like 20 shit points, at this point you don't even bother anymore.
>>
>>31454312

wild charge 2HKO's fini under electric terrain, which can be nice if koko dies. But yeah light screen does sound like the better choice, i'll probably try it out if I drop the ninetales.
