I've been playing these games for nearly two months and I just can't enjoy them for some reason. Alola's landmarks are generally underwhelming, Amie minigames are gone, DexNav and hordes are gone, the PSS and O-Powers are gone, SOS battles fucking piss me off and make EV training fucking tedious, fishing is even more barebones and disappointing than it was in Gen V, getting things like Elixirs, King's Rocks, Razor Claws and Razor Fangs are a nightmare compared to Gen V and VI; Battle Royals are more of a chore than they are a fun challenge, the range of Pokemon available is atrocious pre and post-game and there's no National Dex, hell the Rotomdex is shit in general with its abysmal map and functionality as a Pokedex, experience scaling is back while all of the grinding places are even worse than BW's and you can only get one Lucky Egg per save, the variety of clothing is somehow inferior to XY's, the bonus box wallpapers are gone, Festival Plaza is a fucking nightmare and an inferior Join Avenue, and Game Freak really gave the Alolamons the short end of the statspread stick, especially in regards to speed.

The story and characters are much, MUCH better than XY's and I'm so thankful for that, but the game itself just leaves me numb for some reason. Will this change once I get deep into the Battle Tree?

There's even more replayability for somebody who's smart and plays once and then focuses on VGC. I will say though, my 3DS has been collecting dust as of late. Kinda burnt out with Pokémon as a whole though, and /vp/ made it worse. Just feels too kiddish to seriously play.
