They were made to correlate with the Zygarde sidequest for Pokemon Z (hence all the Z usage). However, once Sun and Moon were greenlit, Z was canceled and, to meet the rushed deadline, all of the salvageable content (Z moves, Zygarde sidequest) was shoehorned into Sun and Moon. The dances were added in to make it fit better in Alola.
