Do you think you have what it takes to become a Pokémon Type Master? Prove it! Bonus points if we bring the total Pokémon types to 20 (aka 2 new competitively viable types)

Light-Type:
>Offensive
x2 against Ghost (Shadows), Fairy , Electric, Water
x1/2 against Psychic, Ice and Rock (Diffraction)
x0 against Grass (Photosynthesis)

>Defensive
Weak to Poison, Grass, Psychic
Resists Ghost, Fairy, Water, maybe a 4th thing

>Retyped moves:
Laser Focus, Lock On, Morning Sun, Tail Glow, Flash
Signal Beam, Solar Beam, Aurora Beam, basically any move that can be boiled down to "Laser Beam"

>Retyped Pokemon:
Starmie (Water/Light), Ampharos (Electric/Light), Chinchou (Electric/Light), Volbeat (Bug/Light), Manaphy (Water/Light), Luxray (Light). Maybe a few other bio-luminescent ones I'm forgetting.

>Why/How is this different from Psychic, Fire, Fairy, etc?
Psychic moves focus on telepathy and shit. There are a few moves like Psycho Cut that are "hardlight". Those can stay. Most Psychic-types aren't known for producing light, they're known for being really smart and shit, so only Starmie would need to be retyped.

Moonlight and Dazzling Gleam could go either way, yeah, but so could plenty of moves. Only Fairy know for producing light is Shiinotic, which is a Gliscor situation and could be Grass, Fairy or Light.

Fire moves attack with fire, not light. Same deal with Electric moves even though there is a visible light component.

For types that would lose moves to this new type, new moves can be created to replace them, so there is no problem there, either. Light hits Water SE anyway, so Zard/heatran wouldn't miss it.
>>
Gas-type moves:
>Are super effective against: Fighting, Fairy, Fire
>Are not very effective against: Rock, Ghost, Sound, Grass, Ice
>Have no effect against: Nothing

Gas-type Pokémon:
>Resist: Fighting, Bug
>Are weak to: Sound, Fire, Grass, Ice
>Have immunity to: Nothing

Sound-type moves:
>Are super effective against: Ghost, Steel, Gas, Psychic
>Are not very effective against: Normal, Fighting, Bug
>Have no effect against: Sound

Sound-type Pokémon:
>Resist: Rock, Steel, Gas, Water
>Are weak to: Normal, Fighting, Bug, Tri, Electric
>Have immunity to: Sound

Good and not stupid additions to the type chart.

Why the hate for Sound? It's logical on its own when you disregard the fact that Normal has taken it over as its Special side, more or less. There are already plenty of Pokémon based on it, too, and it's recognized in-game as one of the classifications in moves.

It has all of the tools to be a type, including precedence.

fighting weak to flying is easy to understand
imagine a brawl, then one guy can fly and attack from the sky, of course the brawler on the ground will be at a disadvantage.
>>
>>31385883
Dark is Evil type in Nip-land, it's not obscurity/shadow
>>
>>31385883
Ghost is the literal darkness type. it has advantages against Ghost.

Ghost is only not a problem right now because it's bogged down by redundant and mediocre pokemon, but offensively it's only checked by two types.

also, in case you forgot they already added a brand new type to keep Dark in check
>>
>>31385863
>when you disregard the fact that Normal has taken it over as its Special side
So, when you disregard that it already exists, it makes sense for it to exist?
>>
I think Fairy Type was a step in the right direction, but I'd make changes.
>Weak to Bug
>Normal effective against Fighting
>Resists Dragon
As is, it is the best defensive type outside of Steel. Being weak to only the two worst offensive types, plus an immunity to one of the best attacking types and a resistance to two other excellent offensive types is crazy.

Personally I'd shift the design more towards elegant mythology based (like Gardevoir and Xerneas) and less "look at this cutesy critter! (Aromatisse, Slurpuff, Comfey, Wigglytuff) Gen 7 did a better job of it with the Tapu and Primarina and Mimikyu, but Gen 6 Fairy was pure fluff.
>>
>Dreamer Type

Weak to Ice, Bug, Poison
Resists Flying, Ghost

Drowsee/Hypno become Psychic/Dreamer
Snorlax becomes Dreamer
Slowpoke line becomes Water/Dreamer
Jumpluff, Grass/Dreamer
Mareep, Electric/Dreamer
Slaking, Normal/Dreamer
Lunatone, Rock/Dreamer

(to go along with this)

I really don't think there's more.
>sound type
what a meme, sound is vibrations, right? Any pokemon can fucking growl and it's not particularly anything special. Hence why it's a normal type?

Sound can't exactly manifest in a physical way either. Fire type? It's a literally hot pokemon that thrives in those conditions. Ice type? Literally cold etc. But sound what are you gonna do? Loudred isn't constructed of sound, is it? Nor does it thrive in a sound based location, does it? It makes 0 sense to have sound divided from normal.

>Light
see fairy, electric and fire
all 3 have an element of it

>cosmic
see psychic, also named Ether - the fifth and highest element, relating to space and cosmic energies.

>artificial
what is "artificial", from what I recall artificial things are constructed of metals, plastics and in general false copies of things that exist. This is not a type, this is a process. If I was born through artificial insemination would that make me made of different shit than you? No. Stupid fucking idea.
>>
>>31386129
But can just any pokemon project their voice with such volume that it causes physical pain?
>>
>>31386129
>Sound can't exactly manifest in a physical way either.

>>
>>31386159

>>
Okay. I really don't think there should be more than 18 types; to be honest they could benefit from collapsing some types into each other to simplify. I think if they did add another type, like if they HAD to, Sound would be the obvious choice because there's already a lot of established moves, abilities and Pokemon with sound-based properties; only thing is that sound is difficult to convey as an element. Other than something narrative-reliant like Shadow or Nuclear, here's my best attempt that I've not seen before:

>PLASTIC TYPE
>Super Effective against: Ghost, Steel
>Resisted by: Rock, Grass, Dark
>Weak to: Fire, Ice, Bug
>Resists: Fighting, Water
>Immune to: Fairy
Concept: Themed on plastics; a sort of fun variant of man-made Pokemon. Stuff like bakelite, nanotubes and polymer blends developed to be stronger than steel, whilst using stuff like nostalgic/creepy toys, objects and popular culture icons as imagery.

Moves:
>Six-Pack Rings: Plastic-type entry hazard, deals damage based on type resistance
>Bubble Wrap: Raises Defense and Special Defense by one stage each
>Velcro Fly: Plastic-type U-turn that prevents opponent from switching AFTER the user switches
>Shrink Wrap: Raises evasion by one stage
>Bakelite: Plastic-type Solar Beam
>Bouncy House: Plastic-themed weather that boosts Plastic Pokemon's Speed and causes non-Plastic moves to sometimes deal recoil damage
>Vinyl Chloride: Attack with chance to Poison

Abilities:
>Biodegradable: Boosts the power of Grass moves
>Styrofoam: Defense rises one stage every hit
>Epoxy: Opponent cannot switch out
>Flame Retardant: Grants immunity to Fire damage
>Teflon: Grants immunity to Poison damage
>Plasticize: Normal-type moves become Plastic-type moves with a boost

I don't think any Pokemon that currently exist would change type. Maybe Voltorb & Electrode would be Electric/Plastic, Trubbish & Garbodor become Poison/Plastic, but I don't really like that idea.
>>
>>31385662
>Cosmic-type
Offensive
2x Ghost Steel Fairy
0.5x Bug Grass Ice

Defensive
2x Grass Bug
0.5x Psychic Ghost
0x Fairy

0.5x Ground Ice Normal
2x/1x/0.5x/0x Sound

Defensive
2x Normal Poison Ground
0.5x Fire Electric Fairy
2x/1x/0.5x/0x Sound

If a Sound-type move is used against a Sound-type Pokemon, then that move will either hit 2x, 1x, 0.5x, or 0x at random.

>Flying-type
Renamed to Wind-type to make it more available to Pokémon that could and need to use it like Gyarados and Mantine

>Fairy-type
Now takes normal damage from Bug-type

>Ice-type
Now super effective against Water-type and resists Water-type

>Void
Weak to: Ground, Rock, Grass, Bug, Normal
Super Effective Against: Normal, Fire, Electric, Fairy,

Rock is now weak to Ice and vice versa.
Fairy is weak to Bug, Ice, Rock, and Fire.

2bh most these types are pretty bad. Light is okay but a bit too similar to other existing types, sound isn't absolutely terrible but any type matchups seem to be hard to come up with (plus how many sound based pokemon could you realistically come up with?), cosmic is lame and too similar to psychic, and everything else is shit.

5) Void-type

Moves:

- Future Sight
- Sundering Quake (100 dmg / 100 acc / PHS)
- Final Strike (50 dmg / 100 acc / PHS / deals x3 damage if user is at 10% HP or less)
- Impose ( -- / 90% acc / Status / Has a chance to paralyze all opposing pokemon)
- Cataclysm ( 150 dmg / 80% acc / SPC / has a 10% chance to burn, paralyze or freeze opponent)

Abilities:
- Majesty: Always goes first (does not count priority moves)

kek.
this.

Dragons are mythical creatures with special hardened scales, the moves are generally much stronger than a regular mons. Look at it like the stronger normal type, and for example something like dragon breath could involve poisons, electricity, heat (stroke), terror etc. Even something like Draco Meteor, it's sort of a combo of rock and fire. Abilities that ONLY dragons can use, hence why it wasn't SE against anything but other dragons at first. It really is just the stronger normal type.

Fighting is based on tactics, pressure and detecting weaknesses. This is why it's SE against "hardened" things, it can locate weak spots and dent special locations. Why it's SE against normal idk but I assume it's to do with the whole jack of all trades thing, normal being some kind of lack of or combination of several types should also have more weak spots for a fighting type.

Ghost is based on a variety of things, it gets messed with dark which is more associated with evil. Ghosts have the element of "surprize" kek, but seriously it's matter we can't intercept (inter-dimensional beings even), gasses, shadows, spirits, fear, literal possession of bodies and death even. I also assume that psychic is weak to ghost in terms of being more susceptible to being possessed (they open gateways to allow them in)- ghosts defy all logic, do the unexpected and gross shit like lick. I don't know why psychic isn't also strong against it as well due to the whole spirit warding shit.

So while fighting isn't made of "fighting", they do have the body, physical capabilities (parry, block, sidesteps, speed, force, stamina) and the mentality of a fighter (precision, focus, awareness). Psychic's have frail bodies and strong minds, their ether energy can be sapped away just like grass can to water.

So I won't say that Alakazam is made of psychic energy entirely, but that's where it gets its strength. Sound energy literally belongs to the normal type, because sound is within all pokemon and would honestly also end up making ice and rock even weaker.

All those types are just regular "normal" types as a vessel containing energy that is easy for one type to deplete, and hard for another.
>>
>>31387881
>All those types are just regular "normal" types
**not ALL, ghost is understandably something gaseous.

Forgot to specify Dark too.
Dark is weak to fairy, go figure it thrives in the dark. It wasn't a both "be made of" AND "thrive in" scenario, it was an either/or scenario. Dark types thrive in the dark, go figure why they hate fairy.
>>

PHYSICAL MOVES

All-new moves showcase the stunning strength of Hair type! Information on how to learn these moves is coming soon.

Bristles (Physical, 30BP, 100% accuracy): The user attacks with sharpened hair or spines twice in succession.

Coif Crusher (Physical, 150BP, -3 Priority, interruptible): The user makes sure its hair is perfect before attacking. This move fails if the user is hit before it is used.

Furious Fur (Physical, 80BP, 20% chance of +1 Attack and Speed to user): The user becomes a whirlwind of fur and claws. This may also raise the user's Attack and Speed stats.

Hair Thrasher (Physical, 120BP, continues for 2-3 turns, then Confuses user): The user swings its long hair with wild thrashing for two to three turns. The user then becomes confused.

Hair Trigger (Physical, 40BP, +1 Priority): A lock of hair strikes faster than the eye can see. This move always goes first.

Hair Whip (Physical, 90BP, 10% chance to Confuse target): The target is lashed with a whip of sharpened hair. This may also confuse the target.

Mohawk (Physical, 50BP, 10% chance of +1 Attack to user): The user slices with spiked hair like a buzz saw. This may also raise the user's Attack stat.

Quill Burst (Physical, 70BP, damages Pokémon adjacent to target): The user attacks the target with a blast of quills. The quills damage Pokémon next to the target as well.

Tangle (Physical, 35BP, 85% Accuracy, partially-trapping): The target is tangled in a mass of hair for four to five turns. The target can't flee during this time.

All-new moves showcase the cunning skill of Hair type! Information on how to learn these moves is coming soon.

Fluff Up (Status, +1 Defense and Special Defense to user): The user fluffs up its fur, raising its Defense and Special Defense stats.

Frazzle (Status, +1 Priority, -1 Special Defense to target): The target is shaken with a hair-raising scare, lowering its Special Defense stat. This move always goes first.

Hackles (Status, -1 Attack to target, -2 Attack if user's health is not full): The user raises its hackles, lowering the target's Attack stat. If the user has taken damage, it instead sharply lowers it.

Shed (Status, +2 Speed to user, -220 Weight to user): The user rapidly loses hair, making itself lighter and sharply raising its Speed stat.

Snag (Status, 85% Accuracy, -1 Speed to target, target is trapped next turn): The target is snagged with messy hair, lowering its Speed stat. The target cannot escape next turn.

Whisker Twitch (Status, next attack from user unable to miss target): The user twitches its moustache in concentration. This ensures the next attack does not miss the target.

MOVES CHANGED TO HAIR-TYPE

Several moves from previous Pokémon games have been reclassified as Hair-type moves.

Cotton Guard (Status, +3 Defense to user): The user protects itself by wrapping its body in soft cotton, which drastically raises the user's Defense stat.

Head Charge (Physical, 120BP, 25% recoil to user): The user charges its head into its target, using its powerful guard hair. This also damages the user a little.

Tail Slap (Physical, 25BP, 85% Accuracy, 2-5 attacks): The user attacks by striking the target with its hard tail. It hits the target two to five times in a row.

MOVES THAT INTERACT WITH HAIR TYPE

In addition to Hair-type moves, some new moves also interact with the Hair type. Information on how to learn these moves is coming soon.

Hair Tonic (Poison-type) (Status, type change to Hair): The user douses the target with a hair-growth chemical and changes the target's type to Hair.

Tease (Dark-type) (Special, 90BP, 85% Accuracy): The user cruelly laughs at the target with a shrill voice. This move is super effective on Hair types.

You tried, I'll give you my respects. Your dedication to your Typefu is admirable but the concept of a Hair type is so ridiculous that just looking at the "HAIR" logo makes me laugh. Focus your autism on something else, like an Astral/Cosmic or Virtual-type, then I'm sure you'll make it work great.

Or better yet, make a Dinosaur-type

Offense.
+ Grass, Water, Steel, Fairy.
- Poison, Rock, Bug, Ice (?)
Defensive.
+Water, Fire, Grass, Fairy

Audino, Chimecho, Maractus, Electrode, Politoed, Wailord, Mismagius...

Sound is the most represented non-type in Pokémon. Fairy was more of a stretch than Sound is. How exactly is Exploud a Normal-type? Why is Chimecho Psychic if it's just a windchime? Why is Kricketune pure Bug?

They should all be able to use their main "element" and features in combat - as they already do - but it should be an actual type.
>>
>>31389643
>why is a bug pure bug?

Also how the fuck are half those things related to sound? Electrode should be Sound-type because it has Soundproof? Mismagius should be one because it learns Perish Song? Why wouldn't Exploud be a normal-type? It's gimmick is being loud. Primeape isn't angry-type. Seaking isn't Horn-type.

>>
Any new type is cancer because there isnt any "niche" left. Fairies were a balance choice, but not Steel and Dark (even if they got to shake the type chart). Sound=Not neccessary. Few sound moves and sound-based abilities are enough. Sound makes no sense when you compare it to Normal (mammals/can't be classified), Rock (made of minerals), Ground (underground creatures), etc. There's just no place for it. Same goes for Light. Fairies are supossed to be light. Making a new type for it is fucking silly. And Cosmic? You mean, Psychic right? Psychic already comprises any space/foreign creature.

>>
What would probably be the best course of action is to make a type based off an inherent attribute of Pokemon, rather than something that can just be tacked on. Things that the Pokemon cannot lose by evolving.

Just as no Bug-types ever lose their Bug typing because it's what they are. Ghosts never lose their Ghost typing.

Lizard-type comes to mind, Synthetic, Rodent, Jelly. These could work.
>>
Unstable Type.
Randomly calculates resistances, weaknesses, and immunity every time it attacks or is attacked.
When using and unstable move, there is a 1/4 chance the move will be either normal, super-effective, not very effective, or no effect against the defending type(s).
When defending, there is a 1/4 chance the pokemon will be weak to, strong against, normal, or immune to the attack regardless of type.

Inverted Type.
Neutral to every other type, but when it is a pokemon's secondary type, it inverts their weaknesses and resistances, and swaps the effectivenesses of all of its moves.
>>
>>31385895
Why is aura sphere weak to fly then? The argument is shit when they're not getting a bonud against every contact move.
>>
>>31393404
Sacred type is not intended to be attacking, it is "holy" type essentially and does not support violence. That's why it is not super-effective against anything.
It is weak against Normal because mundane things often replace holy, sacred traditions. Also purely for balance reasons
And all my type changes make sense, it is all explained in the bottom text of the picture, pls read it.
>>
>>31393984
the genies make more sense as flying, though
mega alakazam and medicham have religious themes, how, exactly?
mew and celebi make more sense as psychic types, especially mew
likewise, xerneas makes more sense as a pure fairy; "associated good beings" doesn't sound like it justifies a type whatsoever.
I could go on, but you get my point, from a type standpoint, Sacred doesn't make a lot of sense.
>>
>>31394013
They are not "genies" tho, they are directly based on three Japanese deities.
Mega Alakazam and Medicham have clear inspiration from Indian religions (Hinduism, Sikhism, I'm not expert in it). M-Alakazam is a guru/sage, and Medicham is a classical battle monk (and his mega has additional "arms" like an Indian deity).
Mew and Celebi are Psychic only because Psychic is a filler type for any sort of mysterious power.
Xerneas works perfectly well as pure Fairy, but I felt like it does fit Sacred type as well. It is also based on that divine deer from Nordic mythology.
Anyway, I don't even think any new type should be added at this point, Fairy already was quite a stretch. I just wanted to make something different from Sound/Cosmic/Light new types everyone talk about.
>>
>>31394194
Celebi is Psychic because it's a time traveller

I think that the Cosmic type people are referring to extraterrestrial phenomenon or rare physical phenomenon like plasma. I would make a Cosmic/Astral/Plasma-type that encompassed extraterrestrial and strange properties of matter. That doesn't fall under the umbrella of Psychic. I would also make a Virtual-type it's very workable and seems to balance things out for Electric, Ice, Normal, Poison, and Fairy.

Light and Sound-type are good ideas conceptually but in practice too limited or too impractical. I love Light but as much as I hate to admit it, physical light is already represented by Fire, Electric, and some Bug, Grass, and Normal moves while the concept of a "good-type" to counter the "evil" Dark-type is already represented in the form of Fighting and Fairy (and some Normal moves).

Iunno, spirits can be either god or bad, when you look at the pokemon we have like say... Gengar, the reason it is the way it is is because it's also poison. I'd say Ghost is more based on natural fear of death and the unknown (and a bit of surprize) rather than deception, evasion and cunning that dark is. If you look at phantump you can definitely see that ghosts aren't all bad as a type. The same for dark though, I don't think Evil is the one single concept it goes off. It goes off all I mentioned + literal darkness, destruction, chaos etc.

Though, I do think the big difference is that ghost is literally otherworldly and dark is more of a state of mind. Ghost can't scare the edgy who like that shit, and the dark are most likely to sit and wait to know when to strike or best them at their game of trickery. Generally the things Dark types are known for are not associated with something good, they don't play by the rules whatsoever (which is why they're weak to fighting/hero).

SO they are better split up. It would be nice to have some kind of disclosure about what they all were officially actually based on.

I don't like the idea of cosmic or void still, or anything to do with aliens/voidlings. Because they can all still be shoehorned into dark/psychic/ghost. All of them. Even void in terms of null/vaccum can be put in those. As for the Aliens, well all pokemon are aliens??? We also have ones from other dimensions and the reason there is no """void""" type for something like Giratina is because ghost includes the void idea already.

The only type I can justify is air/wind, which is part of flying. I can't imagine it being easy to make strengths/weaknesses for it though. I think I just prefer flying but you can't deny that there is a big difference between a hurricane and a peck from a beak.
