Piplup but I'm biased because that's my favorite pokemon line

I think Gen IV was the last gen to have lastingly memorable designs and to a lesser extent Gen V. Mons like Piplup,Staraptor,and Munchlax will never leave my mind.

It's mostly because of how slow the games ran. Also, ever since Ride Pokemon were introduced, people have been really bagging on HMs, which DP is tied with RS for having the most of.

Of course, both of those issues could easily be fixed in the remakes, so no worries.

I harbor no ill will towards Gen 4; after all, it's where I found my first crush (pic related).

Started with turtwig and got a piplup early in my first run. Has those two as my main peeps that game. Good times. Overall all of them are fun to use so going with any of them is great.

I loved how the region had these neat secrets all over the routes, like Fuego Ironworks or that place beyond Victory Road. Alola has them too, but there's something about the Rotom Map that makes them less of an excitement to discover.

Oh, and the Physical/Special split. Can't forget that.
