Toxapex is pretty cool. I didn't think much of it at first but during my playthrough someone did a giveaway and I got one, really like it now. Cool concept and functions great in battle. I don't get why some feel it ruined mareanie, made it better in my opinion.

So is a bulky attacker set with merciless usable at all? I know a defensive set would be way better but I hate the stall playstyle and still want to use toxapex.

I dont think it did either, but toxapex does away with a lot of things that make mareanie appealing, like making the body a lot less detailed and toy-looking, making the tentacles or legs seem much more rigid and ditches the doofy smile in place of a beastly frown

It's probably just me but I've only had success with a bulky merciless attacker when in a doubles battle.

No, not really. It's attack is so low that even with critical hits guaranteed you wont be doing a lot of damage

Even if Venoshock hits like a truck, you would need some support move (i.e. Toxic Spikes for poison) to keep Toxapex alive to even do some major damage.
