Not a difficult achievement, considering even his Metang was stronger than most of Ash's Pokemon.

I tried his team on showdown and it went quite successful despite its many weaknesses to fighting and showdown spammers always using stealth rock

I have an Alan team too. It works great, especially Metagross and Bisharp.
If used with a Z-move, Sky Attack Unfezant does ridiculous damage, but otherwise it's pretty bad.
Tyranitar is great. It can even take out frogs, tanking their Choice Specs Hydro Pumps in Sandstorm.
With DD, Zard is a beast. I considered running a bulky set, but with no Pokemon remove entry hazards, that just doesn't work.
Weavile is sadly pretty bad. It barely gets do to anything in the current meta.
