If someone wants to take a gym they're going to take it. Most gyms are full of dragonites which is one of the worst defenders in the game. The only "difficult" pokemon to knock out are lapras and snorlax, and even they're not that hard to boot.

I walked Grimer because at that time it was the rarest for me, when I was 3 candies away from Muk I hatched a Grimer, since then I caught 2 grimers and hatched other one, I'm 4 candies away of my second Muk. One of the mons that most people leaves for last in their dex.

battery saver mode makes the screen go dark when I put the phone in my pocket so it doesn't waste as much energy and I still get distance on my eggs
also it usually takes less than 10 minutes until I have to change the song manually so my screen doesn't autolock either

Both will perform pretty much the exact same because despite low IVs, the other Lapras has extra stats from the few levels it has over the other one.
However when you max them both out at lvl 30, the high IV one will obviously perform better because of its raised stats and will have higher CP
