Originally, she wanted to find her husband, Professor Mohn, after he'd been transported through the Ultra Wormhole. Evidently contact was made not too long before the game's story begins as Nihilego was encountered, worked its magic and got Lusamine completely obsessed with it. In her controlled state, all she wanted was to be with Nihilego. Lillie implies Lusamine is returning to normalcy at the end of the story. Mohn, for what it's worth, got spat out of the Ultra Wormhole with no memories and set up Poké Pelago.

Notice that Pheremosa's slim figure matched Lusamine not only in body shape, but their poses are an exact mirror image of one another. Lille and Nihilego is obvious. Gladion's color scheme matches that of Buzzwole and the tears in Gladion's clothing indicate Buzzwole's rippling muscles struggling to get out.

The buzzwole/gladion theory has no bearings since gladion picked the clothes he currently wears. It is unknown what Lusamine made him dress as when he was younger.
