There are a few different groups with their own thoughts on this. Personally, I fall in a the first one. I think Dawn's resemblance with Johanna is too much to ignore.

Not true. Brendan's father is a gym leader, an important character. Sun is the first champion of Alola, no one else is taking that position. Hilbert was referenced many times in BW2. The male protagonists are all canon my dude.
