it made it look like Sharpedo, which was obviously intentional for the whole "land shark" thing. Also, Crawdaunt has details that resemble Sharpedo's as well, probably as an adaptation since its stated by the Pokedex as an invasive species to Hoenn, so it must have evolved to have those details in order to intimidate predators

I'm pretty sure that the "Genwunner" syndrome really only extends to people remembering the starters, the bird, the two bugs, the 4 legends, pikachu and eevee, since a lot of the gen one pokemon are extremely forgettable, or at least would be if they didn't fucking shove them in our face every game.
