I think the UBs are really neat. I love the idea of a bunch of terrifying looking aliens coming from another dimension and befriending kids. There's a lot of ideas in my head for short stories that'd I'd like to make involving them but I'm no writer.

Honestly I really love the UBs, the whole "extradimensional Pokémon" thing and their design was a cool move for Gamefreak to do. I find it neat that all their stats are Prime numbers and they also learn moves at Prime numbes.

Time will tell if they have one. "The Pokemon World" went from the real world with magic monsters in it, to a parallel world that remembers its origin, to now some sort of bullshit multiverse to cover/enable their kinda doing whatever and painting over anything that doesn't complement their vision of the current gen. Time will tell if any of this matters in Gen VIII, or if they'll have to shoehorn in excuses to see them again.

I really don't know how this fits, but I like to pretend that my character is Mallow's sister and that Olivia is our mother.

Only one kind of ultra beast had any semblance of an impact on the plot of Sun/Moon and even then it wasn't fleshed out at all in terms of background or motivation. They came off as kind of irrelevant to me in comparison to the guardian deities and the cover legendaries, who were clearly the real stars of this gen. If they were actually integrated into the plot instead of tacked on to a monumentally boring postgame quest I might care about their "impact" on the pokemon world a little more, but as it stands I tend to view them as another set of generic if interestingly designed B-grade legendaries. Some of them certainly pack a punch in competitive battles, but that's neither here nor there for a fanfic thread.

I've seen a few interpretations in oneshots on AO3 that try to give the UBs a little more personality, and most of them work surprisingly well. I'm always interested in stories about how trainers try to bond with weird/difficult to control Pokemon.

A lot of them are from the perspective of the UB. Like a story of a Pheromosa (or even the whole four Pheromosas) being stuck in a dimension it finds dirty, but finding comfort in that the MC is kind to them. Or how a Buzzwole with good intentions scares off the local populace due to it's immense strength.

Then there's also stuff like Guzzlord completely wiping out an ecosystem due to it's constant consumption.

Okay, I got, like, nothing done last night. and knowing me, I'll probably get nothing done this night. So, I guess tomorrow night will be the night I actually write because I'm a lazy piece of shit.

TOTT: I like the idea of the Ultra Beasts, and think a lot of them are derpy and cool. Really, the only thing I have against them is how they're impacting the Meta, and that has nothing to do with the world. There are a few things I could've liked to see in the games with them ,though, like their rampage across Alola while you're doing the whole Solgaleo/Lunala thing with Lusamine. Although, I really liked the idea before the games came out where the Ultra Beasts were actually just extradimensional beings that were the Aether Foundation and the like, and were trying to save pokemon from humanity and were going to take them away to their world and just destroy the main universe. Kind of a Plasma/Galactic type idea. I'd love to read a story that would've folded out like that, BTW

So, here figs, I have a meta question about organization for y'all.

I'm organizing stuff for my Pokéverse setting in my super secret wiki that Vryheid longs to cameo in and I'm trying to come up with two terms to distinguish "elements taken and adapted from Pokémon canons" versus "elements made original or tweaked so much as to be extremely unique to the setting".

A couple of ideas were floated in the chatroom but I still not sure what to go with.

* There's "canonical" vs "fanonical" but the problem is they cause unneeded confusion because they might confound people into thinking the "canon" stuff works exactly like in the games / anime / etc, whereas *all* the elements in the setting are... well, canonical to the setting itself, it's the source that's different.

* "Semi-Canon" and "Extra-Canon", to loosely take a page from Star Wars, which has the advntage of hinting how some things are adapted whereas some other things are added, but I feel like these run into about the same issues as the above.

Does anyone have suggestions of how to describe and name these distinctions?

The wiki itself is already online, but I'm not posting the link yet until I have actually added some useful content beyond a couple of indices and tags.

I'm thinking about doing a "sequel" of sorts. I got hit by an inspiration wave a week or so ago and outlined the whole plot. I've never experienced one, so I only know of the cliches of paying the pizza delivery man with something other than money. And I'm pretty sure that this piece is pizza-free. LL has pizza, though, among many other foods. Including food being used in naughty ways so ghosts can make puns.

I'm glad to hear that. It's impossible for me to know how it reads to somebody ignorant of its precursors since I know more than the whole stories, which makes difficult predicting how will be received the material that is clearly reaching beyond its own scope.

I wasn't sure what to make of the Ultra Beasts initially, but I ended up really warming up to them. Personally, I wish there were more and that we could have explored Ultra Space a little bit more.

I really like the concept of extradimensional pokemon, as well as the thought of these strange and powerful creatures being common creatures in their world. What do their equivalent of Legendary pokemon look like?

If they intend to include UB's themes in future games, a thought I've had is that they could incorporate their lore into Dialga/Palkia/Giratina in the eventual, or just hopeful, DPPT remake games. They're legendary Pokemon from other dimentions, and UB's are from another dimension (granted, one specific one, I believe).

Type:Null/Full and Silvally could use some expansion on as well. For Beast Killers, they don't do much interacting. Especially being based on Arceus, I'd love to see if the original article has any reactions to being cloned/copied.

Okay, unlike last night I got something done. It's not as much as my usual portion, but it was enough. Plus I figured out how to do fog in SFM and had Pizza, so toady was productive.

Pic is actually based off of a scene later on in the story, but that's waaay later on at the tale end of the Unova segment. Now if someone can port over Cynthia, Mega Tyranitar, Salamence and Metagross, I can make an earlier scene.

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone, Gallanon. You update when you update.

One thing I have to say is that you seem to be at risk of humanizing gallason and gardedad as needed to accommodate the plot, while treating other mons like lesser beings. If you're intending to go for the "not all pokémon are sapient/of equal sentience" route, then make sure you develop it so it doesn't seem like a cop-out. Also, even if you want to take that further and afford some pokémon equal sapience to humans, remember that they're still not human. Different species will naturally have different inclinations. Be very careful not to fall into the trap of writing a human in a fursuit.

On that note, there really was no reason for gallason to not fling the mankey away with a simple confusion. Or if you're gonna go with only four moves, slice its fuckin tendon with psycho cut. It seems like an unrealistic plight for a fully-evolved pokémon, however naive and inexperienced, to have some stray steal a bag sitting right next to him.

I can see where you are getting at, and I do feel that I may be overdoing that. But I can see where I would need a slap to send me back in the right direction to make it seem more fitting.

Also don't worry about me going down the "fursuit" path. I would only have a few pokémon kinds that could at least be considered to be near-human in terms in intelect.

As for the mankey fight scene. I think may may of been a by-product of 2AM take this as my cop-out. But I might re-write this here sooner or later.

TOTT: I find the UBs to be pretty interesting. They open up more possibilities for writing, at least. I like them for the most part.
I just wish I remembered all the lore behind them. Apparently, they once appeared in Alola in the past and fought the tapus, and there was also that time when Interpol fought a Guzzlord, but I don't know if they've shown up anywhere else other than in Sun and Moon. Assuming those three cases are the only times they've ever showed up in the Pokemon world, it seems they're not common enough in that world to have much of an impact.
That said, it's totally possible that they had appeared elsewhere, and had more of an influence in those cases, but we just never heard about it ingame.

Honestly, I don't know when I'll get to the Pheromosa thing. I don't even know when I'll finish this darn Combee thing. I haven't been doing any writing for a whole week. Family matters and preparation for going back to college this Tuesday have been taking up pretty much all my time, and to make things worse I've just felt really unmotivated and out of it overall. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else managed to come out and write a Pheromosa fic before I ever got around to it at this rate.

Basically the recent pokedex entires for some mega evolution state that the Mega energy is harmful to pokemon. For example:

Hell, Totem Salazzle was in on the whole joke trial so I doubt the Ultra energy can really alter their minds.

If you want to look at it from an ecological perspective, you might notice that several Pokémon lose the attributes that made them performant in their ecosystem niches through Mega Evolution, and that the designs of the MEs look less like selective improvements and more like twisted aberrations on the design of the original Pokémon. Scizor (who's already a sort of aberration of Scyther) and Garchomp I'd say are the best examples, Blastoise a close second/third.

Possible, but from what we have seen unlikely. The energy usage and timeframe for the release of Z-moves is noticeably constrained and discrete compared to ME. Okay, this is a story idea that I had the other night, and I just thought I'd bring it up here, because UBs are still the Topic of the thread:A fic working with the idea that the UBs destroyed the original universe and are now heading for this one.

The InterPol have figured out that thanks to Lusamine's reckless plan while under the influense of Nihilego, more and more Ultra Beasts are finding their way into the universe and are causing more and more terror. Eventually, Necrozma gets into Ultra Space, regains it's ancient power and begins a full out war against the world.

It kinda sounds like that one Pokewars series of fics, the one where Ho-Oh declares war on humanity. I haven't read those, basing them off of the anime kinda turned me off, but I plan on going back to them. I can imagine for this fic that Mega Evolutions would be a pivotal point on how they defend themselves, Z moves too. Really, I think that focusing on individual characters for things would make it more interesting. Like maybe a chapter where Hau inherits the title of Kahuna form his grandfather and he and Koko and his Raichu kick ass. Or Red and Blue teaming up in the battle tree with Cynthia and Wally to defend everything. Anabel maybe getting PTSD flashbacks from when the UBs attacked her home world (If one with amnesia can get PTSD, I assume they can).

Ultimately, I think that writing this story idea would be best if we wait for Stars/Diamond and pearl remakes. For whatever thing they give Necrozma and to see if they do retcon Arceus and the Creation trio as UBs as well.

Ao, I had this idea for an interesting fanfic, called OceanBlue, which blends a lot of the side games and the Pokémon Special manga.

The concept is the adventures of Leaf, the daughter of Red and Blue in the Sevii Islands. Leaf is starting her journey as a teenager because on her 10th birthday, Red dies trying to help people during a strange tropical storm. As it turns out, Red was actually murdered by a revival of Team Rocket, a secret hidden from Leaf by her other Blue and Uncle Yellow (Yellow is basically Ash Ketchum and was the annoying tag along to Red and Green's original adventure).

During Leaf's adventure, she discovers the truth, finds out what Team Rocket is looking for and takes a stand against thier new boss, at nearly the cost of her and her Pokémon's lives.

The heart of a bug is the "dorsal vessel", a tube that runs along the dorsal side (in other words, the upper side or back) in the thorax and abdomen, which are the two segments below or behind the head. So assuming Leavanny has the same anatomy as real insects, I believe that Hilbert here is just messing with the tip of her abdomen instead of her heart, unless I'm mistaken.

I have characters I choose from, names which I associate with ideas I've had since I was a wee child. They already have personalities. From the few times I did make a character from scratch (typically not pokemon), I just describe in detail the learning process and reasoning in their heads. If Mary Sue is point D, and useless fuck is point A, you gotta go through the loops. It's not necessarily wrong to have a protagonist be savant, but there is fault in skipping the necessary steps.

Depends on the genre and the overall story. Ignace is born from mixing together essence of asshole and a reduction of detective, then seasoned with rogue. Then I cook up the backstory and begin to change up how he thinks and acts based on it and from there the character is allowed to react organically as I write. Using one character I can also create more by drumming up foils, counterparts, antitheses, etc.

Welp, now I couldn't even get in the shower... Plus I'm starting to feel a little fatigued out on Pokemon.
