Same, but I thought it had a brown tipped tail with zigzag'd end facing the rest of the tail, like how the base looks but reversed.

I keep adding the colored tip by accident when i draw pikachu. I think the reason why so many people remember it with one when they were young is because they drew alot more back then and didn't have the resources/maturity/skill to check their art. Remembering a drawing you actually made will stick into your memory more than what you simply saw since it required more effort and occupied more senses.

What im really interested in is why when attempting to draw or recall an image of pikachu the tail tip is often colored. Theres gotta be some biological/psychological explanation. This is like the dress all over again

It's not really a little detail, anon. It's a mascot of a game I enjoy. I hate the Pokémon, but I and a lot of other people do remember Pikachu with some kind of black on the end of its tail, which is super weird.

I don't usually buy into this parallel universe memery, but I swear I drew Pikachu with the black tip everytime as a kid.

When I looked at this thread the first time I decided to search "pikachu with black tipped tail" and someone listed every piece of fan art he could find with that feature somewhere on Reddit, HUGELY long list for something that you can't really search for with keywords. I'm super curious about why people draw him like that, and I don't buy into the Mandela effect stuff either.

This card that was everywhere in the early days has the tail tip as white, which obviously anyone who watched the show or played the games knows is false. I wonder if the empty tip sticks into people's minds and the brain auto corrects it with brown/black from the other areas? I wonder how many of the people who remember it colored had this card as a kid. Do kids new to pokemon make the same mistake?

Really it's a combination of a lot of things that cause these false memories. Black ears, errors in merchandising, errors in official and unofficial art. The brain fills in a lot of detail, it's designed to do so because our sensory organs don't pick up 100% of the reality around us. Things that we see or hear come in a patchwork of data and our brain extrapolates the missing information to form what we think of as our reality. All brains process the world in the same way, so it's natural that little details like this can cause false memories in large amounts of the population.
