B2W2 actually holds up nicely after all this years I replayed it recently for the lulz and doing shit like Dunsparce+Maractus+Arcanine as your main is still as hilarious as ever due to tutors being available as soon as PWT, BW is the one that feels sluggish no matter what until pinwheel forest.

Platinum is OK, is the best from the 4th gen but that generation was shit outside of pvp and the rise of YouTube Poketubers before they went to shit.

Esmerald is OK on it's little bubble, it's a vast improvement over its generation and delivered big time on several areas.

I honestly prefer B2W2 on the holy trinity of third games, but those 3 are decent.

I'm playing HG on Desmume right now, haven't had any crashing but I do have this occasional bug where the sprites get all fucked up and I have to restart to make them look normal again. It always happens on room change.

If I keep playing, then after one more room change, sprites and 3D will stop rendering entirely - the top screen is black. This appears to be the final stage of the bug. (Text boxes will still appear when appropriate, and the bottom screen doesn't have any issue.) Note that battles do look normal, except the visual effects for moves and weather don't appear.

I can still play the game when it looks like that, so I can save and quit, but it's kind of annoying to have to periodically reset. Is this a known bug, and is there any fix for it?

The way the sprites get corrupted is different every time. I've had rectangles, I've had inverted colors, I've had sprites get chopped up all weird, and I've had combinations of those things. The second video also shows the second stage of the bug.

Nah Battle Tower/Tree has kept me entertain for weeks now, espcially battle tournament. It's like the battle maison, except everyone you fight has a set team and a classic character from one of the previous games, with the strongest ai mechanics.

Also it's a small tournament and not some 50 battles in a row to the top where you can easily get cheesed.

I can only play 4th and 5th gen games on Desmume(PC) or Drastic(Android) because otherwise it is too slow. No$gba doesn't even open Pokémon games for some reason. Desmume and drastic opens all games without problem.If only Citra could work fast. It works around 1x speed on my Skylake RX 480 PC but playing Sun and Moon on 1x speed is torture.
