They tend to get larger movepool options to make up for lack of any Super Effective STAB.

STAB Return/Boomburst plus a diverse movepool.

PLUS Pokemon isn't really made with the goal of competitive multiplayer as it is the singleplayer experience. And that experience is that a pokemon like Stoutland or Exploud or Snorlax makes a fine addition to a team, bulky but heavy hitting, and can take whatever TM is needed for type coverage.
