It's a ranking system on the ladder. I think Battle Spot uses a similar system, but it's been a hot minute. Basically, it's used for matchmaking so over time you're supposed to fight players of comparative skill level. Would Eviolite Type:Null count?
It's the same as Silvally minus some speed that it doesn't get enough of to matter anyways and the RKS gimmick that's objectively worse than multitype by a significant margin. Meanwhile eviolite gives it better defenses, it gets immunity to crits, and since its item slot would have been taken up anyways it loses basically nothing other than the speed and typing shift.

But it also just seems like it's objectively bad too... not exactly something you see ran every day.
