Forget the starters, designs with this type of feel not only would never see daylight in the games, but they don't even look like pokemon. they MIGHT pass as digimon. Show me the closest pokemon design you can think of that has an art style close to these

Primarina is an overdesigned meme but it at least kept in Popplio's theme as a performer and while it only barely looks like a real sea lion it looks a lot more like an actual sea lion than Regalio
