Also, an explanation on the name:
I was hunting for a good bit of the day, and in the mid-250 egg range decided to maoe myself a Grilled Cheese. Mentioned to my fiancee it would be funny if it hatched while I was cooking and she suggested I name it after the sandwhich. Lo and behold about 1 bite into my meal, a little green owl appeared. So he is my Grilled Cheep.

As for last shinies I hunted for, it was a Froakie that took me 687 eggs to get in Omega Ruby. Got pic related in Moon as a nice little surprise 12 eggs in when I was breeding these for GTS bargains.

I don't believe in that. I'd say just find a goal and stick it it whenever so you don't feel obligated or pressured to do it within a time limit. You'll want to feel comfortable, but motivated to reach your goal, and just because it's a new year doesn't mean you have to start now.

I did this by using 3 Sneasels from Mt. Hokulani with one knowing False Swipe, Low Sweep, Ice Shard and Thief and the other two knowing the same moves but instead of False Swipe they had Brick Break. On top of that, I also had 3 Clear Body Tentacruels knowing Thief, Bubblebeam, Ice Beam and Scald so I had pretty much 460+ moves/turns to go after Rockruff. It came after 74 but they'll still be useful for other accuracy-lowering mons.

How long does it usually take you guys to get a shiny? I'm doing this for the very first time ever, masuda method no shiny charm, and I'm currently on my 12th box of scythers. I have no idea how I'm even going to evolve it, I have no friends. Still, twelve full boxes seems a bit much.

Odds for masuda method without shiny charm is around 1/683 I think. It could take a lot longer but it all comes down to RNG.

Can someone explain step by step how to perform the Magikarp shiny swap explot? I understand what happens, why it works, but the instructions are unclear to me.
When do I save? Does the nursery have to be empty before I save the first time? Can I hatch whilst recieving eggs?

Okay, so I'll keep a full party and box all the eggs. When I hatch all 30, and there's no shiny, do I save with Ditto still in the nursery or take it out as well and then save

When you get 30, take out the non ditto to halt the egg production, hatch all 30, then save if none of them are shiny. Leave the ditto in the nursery at all times since if you take out both parents it will ruin everything.

If you've confirmed a shiny magikarp, soft reset without saving and if you're going for a shiny pokemon that is genderless or has something other than a 50% chance for both male or females, skip the first egg and take the second egg. The first one doesn't count since it has a different 'roll' for gender since its gender ratio isn't 50% and the one after it is your true first egg. Keep tabs on both the ones you skip and receive until you reach the target number of the egg your shiny is in for both of them.

Basically, if your shiny is in the 13th egg for example, you need to go through twice as many eggs (26 in total) to reach that 13th egg your shiny is in on your 13th received egg after skipping your 13th egg.

You have to skip every other egg. Skip, receive, skip, receive, and so on. Keeping tabs on how many you've skipped and received is the hard part. If you skip or receive 2 or more by not alternating between skipping, receiving, skipping and so on, you will break this cycle and have to start over by soft resetting.

I'm preparing to breed for shiny wimpod. I got two really nice breedjects from wt, in a heavy ball and beast ball, respectively. Which one should I use, or should I try to catch my own in another kind of ball?

A question about the swap breeding method- if I go through 30 eggs and I don't get my shiny, do I need to take both parents out of the nursery before producing the next batch, or just one? Just curious since the way the directions in >>31228689 are worded seems to suggest that it is necessary.

I used to like SOS chaining before since you could more reliably get a shiny compared to chains that break often. After learning about the magikarp swap method, I can get the shinies I want with the right natures and IVs without solely relying on Masuda and getting a shiny with shit IVs or something like a sp Atk nature on physical attacker if I didn't already have the nature I wanted set in Everstone. The only thing worse than not getting a shiny is getting a random one with a bad nature. With the swap method I can at the very least see the shiny forecast and prepare accordingly.

I believe iirc that pokemon sent to or originate from Sun and moon can't be sent back to Oras or X and Y. You can however still send pokemon from X & Y, Oras, and the Red, Blue, and Yellow editions to Sun and Moon though.

Basically if you want a non-alolan raichu it has to be evolved in a previous game and sent to Sun and Moon, same with other alolan evos
