I have a n3ds and the original games, but I actually prefer playing hacks or nuzlockes than the original games... should I buy an old ds just for that?

Btw since we're talking about rom hacks, i'm gonna play Omega ruby but i want to play a harder version, but i don't want to play Rutile ruby since i heard it has stupid hard difficulty to the point that the elite four is lvl 100, is there another rom hack that it's just a harder version without the whole ''this is a challenge that you're gonna need to build a whole team just to beat this guy''?
