It's almost impossible to fix some of the slow dual rock types without making it completely busted or giving it 100 speed. Most of the time they don't even reach "but they're good in trick room" tier.

Give it an ability called boiler, that negates damage from water type moves because magcargo's heat evaporates them (kinda like desolate land but without the auto-sun).

Take 20 points from defense (120 becomes 100) and give them to SpA (80 becomes 100).

Then give it an air balloon for ground immunity and use shell smash whenever you see the opportunity. Not the best possible change but it sure is better than what it has now.

this guy's speed and typing mean that there is really no unfucking it. the most realistic thing would be to change its HA to solid rock or drought (except torkoal already drew that card). even though it's still dead meat but it's probably the best one can hope for

In all seriousness, Magcargo's weaknesses are his biggest bane. 4x Ground (EQ) and Water (Scald/Hydro Pump), 2x Fighting (insert any number of moves here) and even it's own typing of Rock (Rock Slide/Stone Edge/Power Gem). Moves in these types are pretty common in competitive and come on a wide variety of different pokemon that are faster than he is, making him obsolete before his stats even come into consideration. That said, his Def is good at 120, His SpD is decent at 80, but he only has 60 HP which is fairly low for a tanky pokemon. He has 90 SpA to put out some damage, but that doesn't do much with 30 speed and less-than-desirable bulk.

So how do you fix him?

A better stat spread for starters, with minimal increases. Give it moves like Burn Up to turn it into typeless bulk and Sturdy as an ability to prevent it from being instantly destroyed by bad matchups. Maybe even give it Destiny Bond as a last "fuck you".

As far as shitmons go Magcargo isnt terrible willo wisp+ flame body means it can burn things consistently it has sustain with recover and utility with clear smog and stealth rocks

It thankfully knows what it wants to be with its stat spread a slow defensive poke with some special atk (no mixed attacker BS)

all and all it could stand to gain more hp or def which it did in Sun and moon +10 hp it could stand to have even more tho and maybe some more def desolate land would be nice spoiler/
