I could list numerous things, but IMO the most glaring thing is Clair.
Did they really need a dragon type gym when lance, who has superior pokemon to even her, is part of the elite four?

Just replace her with a dark type setup.
The entire reason dark types were made is to counter psychics which essentially had no counters in the first game, but they're so underutilized that psychics still dominate everything on that chart.

And no, rocket members don't count, not when your average houndour carrying grunt uses things twenty levels below anything you're carrying.

I don't think there's anything to "fix", but it's nice to go back with hindsight and imagine some quality upgrades.

Some perspective on these: I only used Kanto Pokemon where it was appropriate to so do, since Johto and Kanto are neighbors.

Falkner keeps his Pidgeotto since he has a very samurai-esque aesthetic and falconry fits this; it also helps to show new players that this adventure will contain both new and old Pokemon.

Bugsy is supposed to be a walking encyclopedia on bugs, so there's a good variety of Johto bugs on here now with no annoying as shit Scyther Fury Cutter spam. This helps his rematch be more true to the lore, as he can add Kanto bugs to his team to reflect his growing research.

Whitney is supposed to be using cute basic white girl Pokemon, and with the games switching up types on us for a lot of former Normies, I decided to let her team reflect a spoiled exotic pet owning rich girl aesthetic that she always seemed to have.

Morty got shafted because only one new Ghost got added, but it's his signature mon now.

Chuck...I don't even know why they fucked Chuck so bad. Now he has a proper team still including the area-appropriate Poliwrath.

I still don't understand why Jasmine wasn't an Electric-type trainer. Regardless, she keeps her thematically appropriate Magneton and gets a region-friendly Skarmory.

Pryce, my favorite. There's something so perfect about such a frigid Scrooge of a man having a happy go lucky present-lobbing Delibird on his team. Sneasel fits his visual and character aesthetic as well, no clue why he didn't have one before.

scyther is hard enough, throwing a heracross into the mix makes it too hard. the kakuna and metapod definitely do nothing for bugsy, but there are better answers than heracross, such as ledian or ariados. I'd give him forretress before I gave him heracross.

I updated it for Gen 7. The only pokemon that aren't available in HGSS are Glaceon (which should've evolved in ice cave anyways) and Alola forms, which I thought provided some cool opportunities for these trainers. I'm sure at one point they would've gone on vacation or ran into a tourist from alola who was willing to trade.
Everything is moved up to BW2 Challenge Mode's level curve, which requires moving some stuff around. Wild Levels, which are notoriously bad in johto, are boosted to provide decent grinding locations. Slowpoke Well now has to take place after Bugsy to raise the Rocket levels and provide more exp before Whitney. Chuck->Jasmine->Pryce has to be an enforced order so keep wild levels at a decent place. An event needs to be added between Chuck and Jasmine for leveling (Drayano's SacredGold/StormSilver added a rocket takeover of the safari zone which would work perfectly here). Radio Tower Takeover now needs to take place right after the player raids the base in Mahagony town to provide levels for Pryce.
This was a lot of fun to do.
