Yeah. I get about 2-5 replacements done per day, some days nothing though.
As for maps, it's 2-5 days per exterior, fewer if working from a previous draft or longer if I'm not working off a previous draft. Plus I'm still working on plot progression and character - that's not even to say doing trainers, Pokemon distribution, scripting/events...
On second thought, 2018 is probably too optimistic. I don't honestly figure I'll get my project in any sort of playable state until maybe 2019 at the earliest. After all, I still have real life obligations and responsibilities.

I want to make a hack that lets you fight Red, Blue, Cynthia, Wally and every major Trainer in the game with harder endgame teams and maybe add them as Title Defense matches as well.

Problem is, I have zero idea of hacking, I just have the idea.

For instance, Red would have his GSC team but all around Lvl 80 while Blue his Leader team from the same game.

Yeah I'm developing Meta Mercury, a game for Essentials.
It's set in Australasia and has a fair bit of fakemon.
Every Pokémon is set to be available, which a strong focus on making every Pokémon have something that allows it to stand out from the rest.
Also, rather than being built on stock Essentials, a new variant is being developed just for it with features unobtainable in other versions.

In the story, you are the child of two famous Pokémon researchers: your mother a Pokémon breeder and your father a Pokémon geneticist.
A prodigy, you easily excelled in all of your classes at the Pokémon Academy and the school decided that you would be best off studying in the field rather than the classroom.
Your father is given a new job opportunity in a nearby region, and is given three tickets to take you and your mother as well. However, your mother decides to stay to tend to a particularly sick Pokémon. She instead gives her ticket to your childhood friend, Julie, who is an aspiring Pokémon Nurse and aide to your mother.

To help keep you company, she lets you choose one of her three healthy Pokémon to take with you: the Grass-type Cubush, the Fire-type Stegruff, or the Water-type Conoro.

Once in the new region, the three of you are shuttled off to a research facility in a booming metropolis filled with amazing technological marvels. Your father is given the task of developing a new robot, which is to keep the city under nightly watch from a group of criminals called Team Swamp.
Team Swamp have been linked to the disappearances of both people and Pokémon, and your father's employer is dead-set on stopping them from causing any more trouble.

Rejuvenation is very similar to Reborn (and was based in it).

Most people that liked Reborn end up liking Rejuvenation. I am one of those, it didn't disappoint. But like Reborn, you might need to turn off your comprehension sometimes if you dislike edge

Pretty hard. Even if you're actually a talented 3D artist it will take you a stupid amount of time. Simply creating sprites for 100+ mons will take you a lot of time.

Give up on that really, I understand wanting to do better than gamefreak, and it's doable on some point, but you'll never have the workforce of GF when creating a new generation.

I've always wished GF would do sequels instead of remakes (or just revisit the region with a new story altogether).
If I ever stop being an idea guy and actually learn to program shit, I'd definitely make a follow-up game to Johto/Kanto.

I am in the process of a hack named Kanto Roads. About 9-10 months ago I released a very bad demo of the hack that was pretty much just bad mapsturbating. Since then I've practiced quite a bit with mapping and done a lot of research and writing to figure out just what I want to accomplish with my hack.
It's Kanto, but its MY vision of Kanto. New and/or improved maps, a new roster of Pokemon (98 Pokemon replaced with Gen IV-VII), a new take on the old story.

Duh. The only issue is border blocks, but as you can see I've gotten around that by expanding the map and making sure the border blocks start well after the player's field of view ends. Obviously I'm still working that out though.

If 3D gifs don't work out, you could always go for actually good sprites. Gamefreak never got pixel art "right" anyway, even in Black/White, where the sprites were the best they've ever been, they completely ruined them all by having machine-made animations.

I'm currently playing around with the idea of making an OmegaRuby 2 / AlphaSapphire 2. I've been thinking about how the region would've changed after the events of the first games, and tried to expand the explorable area by adding new areas to previously empty spots on the map. After Groudon's awakening, I imagine Mt. Chimney erupted shortly afterwards, destroying Lavaridge Town and blocking the path to the desert, but opening up a deep cavern path with lots of flowing magma that connects to the other side of the mountain.

Another regional vartiant. Grass/ground, it's taller and more vivid due to the fertile soil of farms in the Caulo region.

I made it using the two ripped maps and map tiles from ORAS as inspiration and made it all by hand.

The programs I used were Illustrator for outlining the ORAS soaring map, which I then exported and scaled far down. In Paint I then made three copies, added routes to one and routes + icons to the other, then removed everything but the routes and icons, respectively, and layered the three on top of each other in Photoshop, then scaling it up by 300% to give it the same pixel-y look that ORAS has and adding additional effects. The background I made in Paint and then added the darker part in Photoshop.

All I need is to add elevation on the green parts and make separating lines between routes. But I don't want to do that before everything else is fully done.

You start in the new town above Lilycove City. I want the player to explore the right side of the mainland first before going to the left, as opposed to the original games, where the right side is extremely barren. Littleroot Town and the desert are going to be late-game or post-game, and in Littleroot there's a new area called Birch Preserve where the player can find Pokémon not found anywhere else.

My idea is to merge OR and AS together and create a sequel from that, so both Team Aqua and Magma are both disbanded. I'm not sure yet what the new evil team is going to be called, or if they're going to be made of Neo Aqua and Neo Magma grunts or completely new people. I would've called them Team Aether had Sun and Moon not taken that name already.

I can't seem to convert the prepatched .cia file to a .cci file or a .cxi file.

The most I've managed to do is to extract a content.0000.000000 file with ctrtool. How do I convert this to a .cxi file?

To use Essentials is not very difficult to learn.
However, there is a big learning curve when it comes to making custom scripts and implementing unique in-game mechanics.
If you mostly want to make a game similar to that of gen 3 or 4, it's relatively easy, but if you want to go any further than that, I suggest studying the programming language Ruby.

There haven't really been all that many new attractions since Gen 5 though, mostly just an NPC who measures your Pokémon's affection and gives the Best Friends Ribbon. The rest is optional niche stuff like stores and marts doing speciality stuffs, like a Berry Juice Shoppe that makes EV/Friendship/Level/etc. boosting drinks based on the berries you give them or Hyper Training that allows you to raise your Pokémon's IVs in trade for rare Battle Cap items and stuff like that.

For instance, a Flying song would summon a flying pokemon (so you won't be obligated to carry a flying pokemon in your party) and it will perform the Fly function. And then of course Strength, Cut, and Surf would also have a song.

You don't have to have have the cities be exacly like their real counterparts, the main games do this frequently with towns like Lentimas, I'd say at least 80% of the towns in the game don't have much of a connection to their real life counterparts, even with areas like the desert in Manhattan. If you wanted to though you could model cities off other atractions which aren't in the main towns, like a Stonehenge town could be done in a similar way to Geosenge town in X and Y with the Carnac stones. Other areas such as Nacrene city are based off of relatively insignificant attractions like cafes and disused tram tracks in a specific area of New York, someone posted this video in one of these threads before, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB3tp82ujo4&t=78s. Even just general things associated with England could be used, Sinnoh has some rural towns connected to nature and agriculture such as Floraroma and Solaceon because Hokkaido is considered relatively rural in Japan, you could do something like this in your region with something like a run down steel factory town around the North Lincolnshire/South Yorkshire area in your region.

Pokémon-EX
An EX Pokémon is a Pokémon surging with Evolution Energy, the common name for the inherent energy found in all Pokémon.
During an EX-surge, a Pokémon's power greatly increases, and it may even change Type or Evolve beyond its current form.
Mega Evolution is a form of EX-surge, where a Pokémon reaches a temporary higher form of Evolution in the heat of battle. Typically, this can only be accomplished by highly disciplined trained Pokémon, though it has rarely been documented even among Wild Pokémon defending their brood or tribes.
It has been theorized that Type-variant Pokémon are created when Pokémon naturally undergo an extended EX-surge in response to extreme conditions outside their normal environment.

In gameplay terms, all that shit up there is just lore you'd get from talking to NPCs and reading bookshelves.
EX Pokémon would just be an excuse to turn Legendary Pokémon (and certain Trainer battles) into superbosses by giving them stat boosts and cool Abilities or other battle effects. Basically a combination of Mega Evolution (without the form change) and Totem Pokémon.
Actual Mega Evolution also wouldn't require a held item and you'd be able to do more than one per battle, but there'd obviously be balance changes to accommodate that. And I'd probably just rather leave Megas out and balance regular Pokémon well enough that they're unnecessary.

Mostly I just wanted a catch-all excuse for all of these things outside of the shitty lore that the actual games give.

Not for a regular hack, but if I ever made a Touhoumon hack I'd love to include a Z-Move clone in the form of Last Words.

Like Z-Moves, Last Words would be powerful moves that can only be used once per battle. Last Words would differ though by only being usable when the player or opponent has been reduced to one puppet. (Using Revives after using the Last Word would not enable you to use another.) Ideally every puppet would have their own Last Word with unique animations, maybe with a few ensemble characters like the Prismriver Sisters sharing a single move, and if the character has a gimmick in the original games I'd prefer to translate them into secondary effects for the Last Word (i.e. Cirno's Last Word would be a low-power attack with a 100% freeze chance).

This is all a rather high amount of effort that would need to be invested, but I'm just pitching the idealized version of the gimmick. I'd probably also add some kind of level requirement like "puppet needs to be at least Level 30 to use the move" but wouldn't make a held item requirement.

That said it'd probably just be more feral looking like pic related, maybe with the ends of the tails ignited.
I'm not sure if I'd even be using the newest sprites, I might go for the retro aesthetic and decide to do this in GS Essentials whenever it gets updated or bite the bullet and learn how to mod Crystal directly.

Conceptually it would make more sense for it to be a unique encounter, but a big reason I wanted to do it at all is to help with Kanto/Johto's severe lack of Ghost-types, so from a gameplay point of view it would be better to make more than one obtainable.
I was going to go ahead and design a Vulpix for it either way. The name Vulpex is too good not to.

Green dots are placeholders I'm using at the moment. North will be some sort of ecological research lab (a little like the great marsh too). The south-east one will be to do with fossil pokemon, still working out the details but it'll probably be a sort of habitat.

I guess it depends on how intense the grunts are.

As it stands I think it works fine, and even reminds me of the Team Skull grunts mood. Just know that it might take more work to make the higher-ups themes more intense (assuming Team Swamp has higher-ups.)

Dunno if this helps but one thing I like to do is for important battles, really try to come up with a strong melody that will stick with the player. And for more "generic" battles, I'd try to make the melodies sound "non-particular." I don't want to say generic exactly. I haven't heard all of it but it sounds like the theme has a lot of variety in it, and has a great "cool groove" but is "non-memorable" in a good way, so it shouldn't get annoying or anything.
