I liked Sun and Moon a lot, but some of the choices made on which Pokemon to include or exclude are baffling to me. Poor Guzma had to be saddled with fucking Masquerain and Ariados because the only Gen V bugs are from island scans and heracross isn't in the game either.

Carnivine doesn't make any sense at all for Hawaii. Nor is the thing it's based on a tropical pokemon. In all fairness, it doesn't make sense being native to frigid Sinnoh, though at least it's in a damn marsh, which is appropriate.
Carnivorous plants in general are from places where plants couldn't get the nutrients they needed from the soil. The venus flytrap specifically is from North Carolina. I used to live near where it's native to, even.

Also, there's more than enough water types. The only problems are A) most of them are in a single area only and B) every fucking area has way too high an encounter rate for Magikarp. Adding EVEN MORE fish isn't necessary, spreading out what is already there would've been the better choice.

Elgyem doesn't make any sense, neither does Heracross - they only seem added on because you like them.

It was in Gen 1 because Scyther had no evo, but since it does, Pinsir's counterpart is Heracross.
Otherwise, if you had Scyther in one game and Pinsir in the other one, the first one would have one more Pokemon available.
Same reason why Oddish and Bellsprout aren't game exclusives anymore.
