What a waste of America's two coolest (Yeah fuck you West coast) cities. I'd prefer a semi realistic size scale "region" of either NYC or Boston. With Boston you'd have to include some surrounding cities like Somerville since that's where all the people live instead of just work.

I don't think pokemon is set on some sort of future earth, I don't think there is much focus on making a cohesive world as much as creating a region. It seems like X/Y was the start of them REALLY emphasizing the parallel between the region in-game and its inspiration.
