That they're in the game at all means you personally don't have to spend any of yours short of catching Legends. I myself have a good six newly available in Apricorn Ball mons right now, and have used absolutely zero of my own to do so. I haven't even gone to specific threads or sites to do so, just browsed GTS to see which ones people have put up for semi-rare but not retarded shit.

There being only one per game is super annoying for catching Legends, though, there is that. I personally wouldn't mind some sort of way to get additional ones somewhere down the line, maybe in whatever the next games of the Gen are, but I think it's okay the way it is now and definitely intended. It's no coincidence that we get this the same game we can now use Male/Genderless Pokemon to breed down Pokeballs.

some of those are easier to cheese than others. but lets say its part of paligislandio and you could hunt for them like the evolutionary stone island, it would be timelocked at 4 random ones for every 24 hours, thats rare enough to feel rare and could drive gts but not bullshit like having one with a chance to break.

maybe i'm in the minority because i don't trade but i want to use them for game teams and i like the way the johto balls (and their equivalents in later generations) affect catching mechanics more than great/ultra balls. i would argue their rarity in the main game is justified but not at the level (1/game) they chose, but in post game they shouldn't be inaccessible. they should, ideally, be straight up purchasable and it would be acceptable, i guess, to have one of the gamification mechanics i listed in my original post.

i guess what i'm trying to say is FUCK YOU

Yeah, it's more than the Gen VII Pokemon, counting the Alola Formes, anyway. But it's not the majority. Not even a third. But not off by too much and it is more than any other Gen gets, though. By about double on average for any gen other than VII. There's no need to exaggerate when what's true sounds bad enough.

Anyway, this still allows all the Gen V, of which there are an appreciable number with the Island Scan, and Gen VI Pokemon in the game to be caught in Apricorn Balls, as well as the Gen VII Pokemon of course. Not to mention there are quite a few Pokemon from Gen III that couldn't be gotten before either. A very small amount, just 5 lines, from Gen IV are new too.

For specific Pokemon, the Gen II and V starters are there in the island scan, allowing the Gen V ones to be in something besides the basic one (And the Cherish Ball) at all. There's a few rather notable Pokemon from Gen I that are newly available too, despite HGSS. People probably care about Eevee the most, but this is surprisingly Scyther, Scizor, and Pinsir's first times they could be in them, due to being Bug Catching Contest exclusive, and thus Sport Ball exclusive, in HGSS.

Yeah, it would totally just fuck everything up just like it did with GSC and HGSS right?

I mean, besides the fact that Pokémon has barely any sense of an "economy" in online trading to begin with, the way breeding currently works absolutely blows that shoddy point out of the water regardless when you can breed something in a Johto ball as much as you damn well please and flood the GTS/WT with just as much ease.
