The second was after I first got the charm and was looking for a Stufful to hunt. I found a shiny Trumbeak and made the same mistake with Dusclops.

The first and only shiny i ever saw in the wild was a Nidoran in the safari zone in Firered. After one ball the fucker ran and stupid little me didn't realize at 11 how rare it was and shrugged it off. Every time I look back on it I want to slap myself.

Maybe here is the best place to ask.

To do the breeding-swap gimmick. I want a shiny Absol. After boxes and boxes of plain absols, I remove the (local) absol from the box and put a 6iv magicarp instead. Not touching the destiny knotted "foreing" obviously hacked 6iv Ditto in the daycare.
I save.
With a party full of random 'mons, I take a ride inside the Autist box until I fill a box of carp eggs without saving.Once the box is full of 30 eggs, I leave the random mons inside the PC, keeping only my flame body Talon flame, And I remove te carp from the daycare to put the egg layings on hold. Leaving the ditto, of course. Now the eggs hatching begin.
The goal is if I find a shiny carp, I can count the egg # were it come from, reload, swap the carp for absol when I'm getting close and get a shiny absol.

So far, no success. if the is no shiny carp, I just keep the ones with perfect IVs and flush the rest. Then I repeat the process from point #1.

So, I just wanna make sure. Am I diong it right?

I actually don't give two shits about competitive but I still try to at least get the legends with decent stats for collection purposes.
I wouldn't want an adamant Lunala for example, but I settled with putting a jolly Bewear in my playthrough team. I'll try for timid or modest though, considering it has a piss easy catch rate and it doesn't hit my team too hard.

And while I'm at it, last week I've been SOS chaining for a shiny female snowrunt. A WHOLE day later, still no shinies at all. All my SOS luck was used up for my previous 'mons.

So I resigned myself to try MMing. Got pic related in my second box! First box if you don't count creating the perfect snowrunt couple for "perfect" ivs and the right nature.

I know that feeling. I caught a shiny magnemite I was chaining for and when I realized I messed up spelling its nickname after hitting enter, my hands already soft reset the ds before I realized I fucked up.

Had to re-chain to get it again and managed to get another 2 shiny magnemites and a magmar before the chain broke. Rip the original Rusty the Magnemite though.

I agree. It's an RPG, of course you should have to fully train your party members if you want to manually max their stats.

I'm glad they actually gave people a reason to train Pokémon to Level 100 now. If you aren't going to breed for your perfect mons, then fully training it should be the standard alternative.

The only thing I will agree on is that there should be a better place to train. Not Blissey Bases or Le Wow, those were both utter shite borderline-exploits that people sat in and mindlessly grinded for hours. That's not the way Pokémon should be. At that point, you may as well just hack the Pokémon to level 100.

What I wants is a proper high-level dungeon like White Tree Hollow/ Black City Tower, where the trainers have Level 70-90 Pokémon. That should be a standard in Pokémon games, and the go-to for post-game training. You know, so you actually PLAY the game to train your Pokémon.

I'm not a shiny hunter or anything, but after I screwed up and accidently talked to Gladion without saving first, I reset and went back to Aether to save for a good nature. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but on the very first try, this is the Type: Null I got.

I havent encountered a shiny in years. I was shocked when I saw the nature, too. This is one hell of a start to a new year.

Just the dex entry. When you scan 10 codes, you'll be alerted to a random rare pokemon showing up somewhere for you to go catch.

I'm not trying to troll with this question, since I'm sure you guys get this shit a lot and I have no desire to stir up a shit storm, but, what keeps you going? I'm curious /shg/ since I've never really done any shiny hunting since it's never really appealed to me. What makes it worth it? I've been kind of been playing with the idea of soft resetting for a shiny Chikorita in HG to see if it "feels" different, but, just the idea alone of doing that for hours upon hours kind of puts a damper on my mood for doing it. It's not like I've not gotten shiny Pokemon before, all of them random or hatched from breeding rejects before I started injecting. What keeps you guys going, I just don't understand it is all. Just seems like it'd be less of a headache to just make it shiny after the fact is all since the shiny itself has no worth to me.

Also, to keep yourself from giving up, you must watch stuff while you hunt. Casually hatching eggs or encountering Pokémon while you watch movies or binge a tv show is great multitasking, and the Shinies will pop out in no time.

Also, it's a bit like finding a super rare drop in any other RPG. Just cheating it in doesn't give any feeling at all. Sure, we bitch about not getting a shiny, but that just makes it all the sweeter when you finally get it. Injecting it or modifying a mon to be shiny just gives you no feeling.

Besides, it's not like we do nothing but shiny hunt. We watch stuff, listen to music, and i play other things while i soft reset, my go-to is rpg's like Mother and Final Fantasy

I've never hatched a shiny before, though I've done chain fishing, friend safari, DexNav, PokeRadar, SOS chaining, etc. I went breeding for an Audino in OR and gave up after 31 boxes of no luck. I guess it's the boredom of hatching that's getting to me, it always feels like I'm making progress when chaining.

Imma tell you a fun story.

Some years ago I bought my first smartphone. It was a big deal because I'd just had brick Nokias up until then, so I was pretty eager to use it for games and shit.
I got a GBA emulator for it, and started playing Firered for shits and giggles. It didn't last me very long, so I came up with the brilliant idea to SR for a shiny Mewtwo and use the Master Ball on it. I wasn't going to touch the game after that so I figured I'd go out with a bang.
At first I had my doubts SRing would work on a phone emulator, but one afternoon it finally happened. I didn't even use the Master Ball because I'm fuckin dumb, but still caught the thing.
After it was all said and done, I swiched over to Emerald to catch up since I had only played RB when I was too young to even know what I was doing. Beat it, fun, you know, it was chill.
This one afternoon I was particularly bored, and I started looking for a Plusle under the cycling road (I think it's a 1% in Emerald). On the process I just happened to find a blue Gulpin in a matter of minutes. Despite Emerald's broken RNG (which I actually didn't know about then), I was dumbfounded because I was very much aware already that shinies were rare. Like, shitsticking sort of rare.
Something clicked in me, I got this rush of excitement that told me I wasn't made to get into competitive battles, but for collecting. And collecting shinies seemed as good a timewaster as any.
Since then I've found around 40 full odds shinies in gen3, around 15 in gen2 (and around two boxes of ones bred with a shiny Ditto which is that gen's ezmode), a couple in gen4 including starters and some others purposely sought but random from the wild, a couple in gen5, a shitton from gen6 from SRs, friend safari and regular REs, and a shiny starter in Moon.

I'd say this shit is legit like drugs. Personally I enjoy the rush when you find it, but it's not as intense as it was back then. See the similarity?

I can't really blame you for looking at it like that because in all honesty it's not wrong.
Funnily enough though, I've never even entered a casino or bet on anything. I'd rather make smart investments or save up over trying to make big bucks with luck.
Call it a more autistic version of gambling I guess, since what we get doesn't even have any monetary value. To me it's more sentimental, because like I said, I won't even touch competitive with a stick, so my shinies are mostly trophies except for the starters I used for that playthrough.
It makes me believe I've accomplished something on my failure of a life. This is the part where a shrink would have a field day. You weren't half wrong on the psychologic side of it.
Surely not everyone has the same motivation though, I'll tell you that much. And for those I reckon it goes along the same lines of dopamine this and dopamine that.
