Dan Grumps is fine, the only major issue is Arin acting up more than he really needs to for "characters" sake. He's said himself that they act up on GG a little because that's what the audience likes, and in Arin's case he does it more because with Dan, Arin is the "silly" one.

Their best stuff is when they get invested in the game emotionally and/or talk about personal shit - Shadow of the Colossus, the Katamari games and Wind Waker were great, namely. The common thing with those being the fact those games are entertaining or silly enough to let them just chat shit to each other and comment on whats going on too without Arin needing to exaggerate some form of anger or something.

FireRed and (potentially) Sun would fit this too, if only Arin paid a little bit more attention to not make dumb decisions - like somehow losing to a Yungoos on route 1.

Not true, as someone who makes these videos I have to object, first of all because I do it, obviously.

But before I ever recorded anything, I watched them, like these anons. It started when I was a kid, even though over 10 years ago it wasn't as popular, but watching people play games back in 06/07 was still high concept, it was new, if the host was charismatic and/or funny enough, it was like you were along for the ride. It wasn't just entertaining, it was entertaining in a new kind of way. Some people actually don't even play or own video games, they just watch them, and that's a partial testament to how cinematic and immersive many games are, to the point where you don't have to be an active player to be an active participant

tl;dr watching games is fun and comes down to the host, it's like when you take turns playing something with a buddy as a kid and you both get into it
