Headphones.

Doesn't help that this was the one part of the game where I specifically plugged my headphones in for. Took me a while to realize the music itself was doing all the funny stuff after hearing the sound effects playing normally.

I dunno if this is what they wanted, but they really succeeded in making an unsettling music.
It makes me want to turn it off though and the first time I checked several times it wasn't a malfucnction.
