I feel like most of /vp/'s favorites are unsung among normies.

For example, Shuckle and Wooper are huge here, but they're not "muh edgy mega dragons" so they aren't very popular with kids or genwunners. Wooper used to be pretty big in the early 2000s from the anime but hasn't been promoted by Gamefreak in years.

Then you have Anorith, voted least-hated mon on /vp/ by process of elimination. Even during Gen III I don't think most pokemon players I knew were familiar with it, by way of being a "you may only choose one" fossilmon. It's a shame too, since it evolved into what was essentially that generation's Tyranitar (at least design-wise, if not in terms of stats or moves).

Seems like most of /vp/ really likes the idea of having their very own shoulder-mon, so a lot of smaller, cuter, and generally Sp Atk or status-move mons are more popular here than they are in the general public; but on the other hand you have a lot of folks here who seem to really like "misunderstood" mons--things like Mimikyu and Ditto who never get to be themselves, or get a lot of fanart about being accepted by other pokemon.

...It's almost like /vp/ just wants a friend.

I like all of the Johto cross-gen evolutions as standalone concepts, but comparing them to their native evolution line is jarring. When I first saw this I thought the design was godawful but it's kinda grown on me. I'd have liked to have seen a line though, like a rotting chest Pokemon evolving into it or something.

If it had the same seaweed, I think it could be a cool implication that it's the seaweed giving the anchor/chest it's life, much like the mushroom on Parasect.

I love the Vanillite line too. When you step back and realize that it's just a snow pile on top of an icicle, and that in-universe it's the inspiration for ice cream rather than the other way around, it becomes a lot more likable. Plus as you can probably tell from my top 3, I love Pokemon with big goofy smiley faces.

Idk if you're being contrarian or he really is your favorite, but this guy's pretty unpopular. I made up a cross-gen evo for this guy when d/p/pt was out, who's normal/ghost and has a trick room setting ability since his dex entrues mention "twisted dimensions" or something like that.

been using this little mischief maker since crystal came out, had hack it into my sapphire game just to use it more, bred it and put the child in my leaf green cartridge, and did the same and transfered to diamond, then plat, black, white 2, Y, AS, and finally to moon where it belongs.
it's been...a good long run with this little thing, never evolved it either.

Infernape will always be my favorite starter.

I honestly have no idea how to run it; I love its design and it's great defensive typing, but it sucks having to run it as a mixed attacker with Bug Buzz (if you even decide to run bug buzz in the first place). It at least has Sucker Punch which is good for surprise factor, but I only find success running it as a defensive wall (with rocky helmet) that can occasionally finish pokemon or punish fairy switch-ins.
