Therefore she would have been captain for about 5 whole minutes before running into the player character.

Not the first trial captain, I agree, but I would assume the first in a few years unless Hapu's grandfather died days prior to the games events. As for what its based, just pure speculation. Its about as valid as anything else until nintendo says otherwise.
