Because they're all shit. Not a single one of them is redeemable. Samurott has a movepool that's wasted on mediocre stats. Serperior is only good if it has Contrary and even then it's movepool isn't the greatest. And Pignite is really only good on a Trick Room team, very niche. None of them are desirable.

Snivy becomes Serperior,a defensive grass type with a crappy movepool whose only redeeming factor is a ability you can't obtain on normal play.

Tepig becomes Emboar,a slow mixed attacker with a type and body design we have seen twice on better pokemon.

Oshawott becomes Samurott,one of the stupidest pokemon ever made.Its design is dumb(quadruped swordsman lol) and conflicts with its pre-evos.the type is as overdone as the other starters' and it's a slow mixed attacker.

I like the Unova starters and everything but I gotta admit they ended up in a pretty unfortunate situation.
Serperior is outclassed by every other grass type in game (Lilligant, Whimsicott, Sawsbuck) except for maybe maraca cactus and the shit monkey
Emboar is outclassed by Darmanitan, and basically every other Unova fighting type
the only one that's even worth using in game is Samurott just because Unova was one of the worst selection of water types ever. Also Mega Horn aint bad for fucking Ghetsis' day up, when Emboar and Serperior are almost guaranteed OHKO by his Hydreigon

I know GF made the gen 5 starters lackluster to encourage you to go catch other mons, which isn't a bad idea really, but they definitely had the potential to be WAY better.

Emboar is still probably my fav fire starter though.

I didn't like them when I first saw them because Snivy doesn't look like a real animal, Tepig looks like he's wearing a black daiper (beam lmao) and Oshawott looks weird while making a frowning face (though he eventually grew on me when I saw him making other faces).

On the other hand I loved all three of Gen 6's starters when I first saw them. (Not saying anything about the actual game.)
