Probably because the story and atmosphere was done in BW to differentiate it from fourth gen because it's on the same hardware, but for XY Game Freak probably figured it was different enough so they didn't have to put effort into the story or characters. Probably.

It's definitely overexaggerating to call the plot of any Pokémon game "amazing"

I liked BW for the meta stuff - i.e. questioning the ethics of training Pokémon - but its characters are all really flimsy when treated with any kind of scrutiny, and the plot suffers from a lack of momentum until its final moments

SM had a pretty interesting main cast in concept, but too many of its key characters are drawn with a broad brush to make them truly compelling - Lusamine showed so much promise but ended up being just as undeveloped as Lysandre

it is actually more challenging then challenge mode but not because of the shitty level scaling. its because pokemon on easy mode have shit IV spreads where as in challenge mode you have at least 2-3 full ones guaranteed.

The new designs are the reason why normies and fags hate gen 5, specially since BW1 only has gen 5 shit during the main game.
BW feels so fucking amazing to play. Everything is fast, the animated sprites are godlike if you can stand pixels and the exp curve is great. Also the volt white blaze black rom hacks are fucking great with the challenge mode setting.

Speaking of the difficulty settings, is it true that easy mode is bugged? I heard that gamefreak messed up and made it so that the trainers had lower leveled pokemon but kept the stats of the original level, making it actually harder than challenge mode since you get less exp due to the curve.

Generation 1 literally have only a small handful of good Pokémon designs. The rest is either real-life animals, creepy and disgusting humanoids or objects/stuff that lives. The gimmick of the monkeys are their typings. And it's not even a decent gimmick like Oricorio's. They're 3 copy pasta'd monkey recolors with minimum differences between each other but different enough to occupy 3 pokedex entries. And then they also got 3 fucking evolutions that follow the same pattern.

X/Y had to spend more time creating new 3D models for all currrent 721 pokemon among other things and it gave them less time to work on their writing. That and I personally do not expect to enjoy a Pokemon game's story as much as B/W and I accept that. S/M did a damn good job though.

I didn't like BW2's story. I thought BW had a much better story. The super science messing with Pokemon angle is overplayed. I also thought Colress was an incredibly forgettable villain and Dennis's final encounter was nowhere near as climactic as his final encounter in BW.

like it or hate it you have to admit BW tried to do something different and memorable, and ended up being much more ambitious or big than anything that came before it really (in some ways it doesnt even feel like a Pokemon game). But since it got such a mixed reception GF immediately backpedaled into the status quo for in BW2.
And in XY they just gave up entirely and gave us shallow forced pandering with zero heart in it.
