Those and only allowing one pokemon to be put to sleep at a time are the only noteworthy differences between normal play and smogon play. The other rules just deal with stuff that literally breaks the game such as endless battle situations.

If your bros are all decent but one is UU, you're far more likely to win using a team of your bros in smogonformat than you are facing off against Mega Fug & Friends in a casual no rules setting.

5th gen UU, because it was the only meta I got good into and I've sucked in everything else ever since

Smogon ruined itself with their shitty bans starting Gen IV/V, a shame since I prefer singles.

So I'm inclined to say VGC14 or even 17. Shame they're not full pokedex, but there's a sense of balance by disallowing previous generations moves and a lot of pikemon has their niche or reasons to be picked other than 'it's the best at its role'. Of course there's broken shit and a lot of things to improve, but it's way better than tipping the balance towards stall everytime possible.

I hope Morimoto starts balancing towards singles some time soon.
