Pokemon isnt homophobic.

But it, like a lot of games geared towards a younger audience and made in Japan, is fairly heteronormative. Nintendo titles tend to fit in this box, even when they introduce lgbt characters they either censor them on western release or ridicule the character constantly a la vivian from paper Mario. The deal is that for Japan lgbt isn't feared but it isn't really represented either. It's neutral with a side of ignore or even a side of comedic redicule.

As a game for a young audience, romantic relationships are only implied in the first place. When they are implied, for example lillie or even couples that are in the game, that's when the heteronormativity plays in. And it's a real shame that most kids media turns out that way. All media aimed at a young audience has the ability to both empower young, questioning youth and foster tolerance. Kids shouldn't have to wait until middle school to know that gay people exist.

Anyway, hope I contributed something to this shitfest discusion thread. Yes, OP, people with mind numbingly stupid opinions exist, sorry that some of them happen to be arguing for more inclusion in video games.
