Main campaign is playable, everything in Naljo is completely polished. Rijon has some areas unfinished and blocked off like Castro Mansion and Mt. Ember, some quests not done like the Power Plant quest (which likely would have led to capturing Zapdos), and there are some Pokémon in the game unavailable either due to their areas/quests being undone or by oversights (Eevee can't evolve into Sylveon, and you cannot obtain Snorlax, Carnivine, Zapdos, Mew, or Mewtwo). There are also some bugs of varying severity, ranging from minor inconvenience (Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel via Fire Stone due to oversight) to game crashes (don't look at your Hall of Fame records) to data corruption (don't use Teleport anywhere near the Pokémon section of Laurel Forest).

Overall it's playable from start to finish, but there are some things that sorely need a patch. There are a couple people trying to patch some bugs and I've seen patched versions floating around (Sylveon can be gotten from Eevee for example with that patch) but it doesn't cover everything yet.

So I want to preface this post by saying I'm a total amateur when it comes to hacking and don't have deep knowledge about anything Gen 2 besides things related to music hacking. I may be interpreting this stuff wrong, and just want to get that out of the way in case I spread misinformation.

I'm doing some research into Varaneous (and by research I mean fucking around with the roaming map coordinates in trial-and-error) and it looks like, at least for me, it starts itself in a map that doesn't exist.

GSC separates maps by groups. You can have 255 mapgroups, and 255 maps in each group (or so I think; I haven't messed with this shit too much, it might be less, but it has a full byte stored for each at least). Prism uses 95 different mapgroups. For me (and I assume for others because the Pokédex showed Varaneous in the same place as everyone else, seemingly on Route 68), Varaneous seemed to be on the 255th mapgroup, in the 167th map of that group. Obviously that doesn't exist as a map, and it doesn't have any routing with other maps for Varaneous to go to either, though that specific combination of mapgroup and map number does display it as being in the same place as Route 68.

When I moved it to a map that actually does exist, i.e. moving it to Route 70, mapgroup 14/map number 1, it displays normal roaming Legendary behavior. I think if someone added a script to give it a default starting map like that, Varaneous would no longer be bugged.

This also means the people claiming to have found him on Route 68 either didn't have this problem for some reason or they're full of shit.

>>
>>31053053
You know Prism has most of the gameplay improvements from later Gens, right? It has the split, it has abilities, it has moves and Pokémon from later Gens, etc.

Also, when KBM started this hack there were only four total generations, and this hack is a sequel to an RBY hack he made when there were only three. He made that RBY hack explicitly to go against the norm of everyone only hacking Gen 3 and nothing else, and this hack used GSC as a base to try and capture the same feeling of "direct sequel" that GSC itself was to RBY.

Fucking around more with this, it seems like resetting your game (as in, turning your Game Boy on and off again, not restarting) randomizes the map coordinates to a legit value if the mapgroup value is anything EXCEPT mapgroup 255. It can be a map that exists or a map that doesn't exist, any number but FF works, which now makes me think FF is tied to a specific function. I'd need to find the specific routines that handle roaming Legendaries to confirm it, but having a value of FF probably tells the game "the player hasn't done the thing to set off this Legendary, don't deploy it or let it move anywhere yet."

If this is the case, then the script where Varaneous gets awakened in the plot probably doesn't actually set the "this roaming Legenndary is moving" flag or something to that effect, even though it marks it as seen in your Pokédex.

TPPAC (a hack done by some of the same devs as Prism from earlier this year) had a feature where Bill would call you asking if you want to change boxes as soon as your current box gets full. From what I've been told there are remnants of that code in Prism but it wasn't utilized for whatever reason, possibly planned for a later version but not finished in time.

The shitty boxes in Gen 1/2 are a hardware limitation rather than a conscious design choice. You can only fit so much data in a bank and Pokémon data takes up a lot of room (relative to how much RAM the carts have).

Fun fact: In the Japanese versions of RBY and GSC, each box could hold 30 Pokémon and there were less total boxes, but they couldn't fit 30 Pokémon in the space needed for each bank because nicknames take up a lot more room (relatively speaking for the Game Boy) than in Japan, ten characters compared to five, so they cut it down to 20 per box and added more boxes to keep the same total 'mons that could be stored. This is why there was a sudden jump from 20-per-box to 30-per-box in Gen 3, because the GBA didn't have to worry about space nearly as much so it could stay consistent with Japan.

It'd been fine if at least you said is shit because you didn't like X thing about the game itself once you actually gave it at least 30-60 minutes instead of criticizing how the game looks when that's specifically tied to the hardware of the console that the game is based on, but since that wasn't the case, kys.

How do you evolve trade-evolution Pokemon in this game?

Stones
>>
Saw one of the guardians in the prison, opened the cage and he escaped, where do I find him?
Also, I run out of cage keys but there are still the other cages with pokemon in them, can I get more keys or are they forever locked?
>>
>>31057757
You can catch and evolve them anyway it's not a big deal.
Beldum is in the ruins.
snorunts on the first route
makuhita is in aqcua cave.
>>
>>31057805
So if I hadn't unlocked the cage where the legendary was kept with my last key I wouldn't been able to get it?
Great game design.

Most people only playthrough once and making you restart your game because you made a small choice that you had no idea the large consequences of is shitty game design
>>
>>31058259
You see it with your autism glasses of not getting everything. Whereas some see it as a path not taken that can be explored further.
>>
>>31058273
no it's not knowing the consequences of minor bullshit and being punished for it. If it told me upfront "you have a certain amount of keys choose wisely" I'd be more inclined to agree. And there are so many similiar fucking things that have no fucking consequences why should I assume it's any different
>>
>>31058346
>you're in a jail
>assumes keys to opening cells are a common thing
Now you're the baka.

Also it's not really a consequence because AGAIN, you can catch and evolve all the mons you can unlock. SO you're not locked out of anything you dumb faggot.
>>
>>31057885

There are more keys later, you can't lose it permanently. I do agree it encourages save scumming to find the right guy though and avoid those without more keys.
>>
>>31043480
How do you play this? Is it its own .exe or is it a Gameboy rom? If it is a rom I'll give it a try, but if it is it's own program I don't want to give the Russian hackers access to my dick pics and dog porn.
>>
>>31058370
You really are braindead

If we're going to apply shitty logic I could take the keys to a locksmith and make infinite.
And we were talking about being locked out of content you fucking retard.
>>
YO! FUCK! SHIT! PISS! haha fuck my parents

heres some pro tips for good mons

-abra is in the grass right after heath village, save state a mining pick until u get a tradestone easy alakazam
-togekiss is literally amazing. save up orphan points and buy one at spurge
-of course the cyndaquil at the first/second city forget where
>>
>>31058398
It's a Gbc rom. You can download it and play it on a shitty emulator right away.
>>
>>31058399
>In a manual jail with keys, i should be able to obtain every one and free the entire complex

Maybe in a main-line GF title.
You see it as locked out content, i.e bad game design. I see it was applying a tiny bit of realism (even if there's plenty of outstanding problems with the concept like you still having your pokemon , battling guards etc). And trying something different. You shouldn't be guaranteed everything.
>>
>>31058442
>Orphan Points
Jesus Christ this game sounds gayer by the second.
>>
>>31058475
Keys breaking in locks when you use them like it is a Zelda game is not realism.
>>
>>31058496
It comes down to.
1. jail
2. get a key
3. you should assume they are scarce.
4. explore everywhere and eliminate everything until there's nothing left
>>
>>31058475
"Realism" such a fucking buzzword, this is where any argument you had goes down the trash. We're playing a game where you dogfight super animals and keep them in little balls with infinite space. If it only serves to inconvenience the player it's shit. Nothing is fucking challenging about this kinda thing.
>>
>>31046993

>>

>let's emphasize the situation to the absurd so any argument gets undermined

>the absurd is absolute and has no room for anything different
>pokemon has absolutely no realism applied to it from our world
nobody said that

didn't imply any of this, it's just stupid to apply that logic to one thing in the game when it's the basis for almost nothing.
>>
Get a room you two
>>
>>31058691

The basis is proved from the outcome.

Anon-Kun, you should perfectly know by now that once something is uploaded to the internet, it hardly dies so stop underestimating it. Gamefreak are hacks and have been for a long time. They think that graphics is mainly all what they needed to do because they don't understand the concept of these games "evolving" (pun intended) in the way that they should have. They actually take away stuff in previous games that were good and actually benefit the games. It is very stupid.

It is also mainly a preference thing for people but I actually like the older sprite look then the new shit 3D awful polygon look.

Gen 1-3 had such nice comfy graphics desu. Gen 3's colors especially pop out to me as being absolutely fantastic. To me gen 3 was the peak of that old graphics style. It perfected it well.

If that's true, there's likely some issue with routing for him. I would need a save file from before Varaneous is awakenened to know for sure, though. Does anyone have a save close to there, beaten Andre but not awakened Varneous?
>>
>>31057066
Once I mashed my way back and forth through a map connection and got it to appear at the fake route 68, but I haven't been able to reproduce it while going slow. Nevertheless, you're right about it resetting when you beat the E4, so even if we can't pinpoint what's going wrong we know there's a way to fix it.

They're hints to the Stop&Swap items. If you scan them with a regular QR scanner they'll tell you the location of one. Here are all of them already scanned, behind spoilers of course in case you'd rather hunt them down and scan them yourself.

It's great. Even with its bugs and unfinished postgame it's my favorite Pokémon hack.
>>
I can see how this opinion would be unpopular but I really hate the Palette Patrollers so far.

Almost every cave is a damn gauntlet with them and I'm just getting sick of it. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate tough fights but at this point I'm just going back and forth to the center 5 times every cave and it just feels completely tedious.

>inb4 hurhur casual

I love the mazes and puzzles this game has had to offer and consider them top notch and I really liked the 4th and 5th gym battles even if maybe there might have been a bit of a level spikes. The Magikarp maze and the graveyard were especially good.
>>
>>31066110
I was mildly annoyed by the Pallet Patrol. If every area with them had in-dungeon healing like the Naljo Ruins I'd be 100% fine with everything.
>>

What the fuck even is this catacomb puzzle with the switches. Can't work my way around the yellow, blue, and black ones.
>>
>>31066328
Brown is the prequel to this hack (it's not nearly as good due to hacking limitations though).

Difficulty hacks are nice, Red++, Polished Crystal, and Twitch Plays Pokémon Anniversary Crystal are all good. TPPAC in particular was made by people who worked on Prism in the last year.

CrystalDust is a newer and better Gen 3 Johto remake than Shiny Gold.

Other Gen 2 hacks with custom regions that I enjoyed are Dark Energy (which isn't complete but the beta has about as much content as GSC Johto) and Bronze.
>>
Somebody want to post an oldboy apk pretty please?
>>
>>31043849
>how unfinished is this game?
You can get all 20 badges, just some side story missions are unfinished
>>
>>31066110
Just bring healing items. They exist for a reason and for once the game actually seems to want you to have them on hand. The 60 HP for 300 pokebucks sodas from one of the early towns are really cash efficient for a lot of the game.
>>
>>31043480
You are a faggot. Gen 7 games aren't fun and aren't good.
