I dont hate Samurott, but I admit it is undeniably flawed in more then a few ways.

People give Dewott shit for not probably acting as a proper bridge between Oshawott and Samurott, but I think in this case it was Samurotts job to adjust, as Oshawott to Dewott looks great. The two have similar looks while having the diffrences needed to show a growth in strength.

Putting Samurott on all fours while trying to make it wield a shell like sword is just kind of awkward. Even when it stands on two legs in the anime briefly, you can tell this is a creature that looks like it would struggle with back problems in order to fight. In the water, it looks much better and maybe this is what they were going for, but on land its an akward mess.

Not to mention you would thing a sword wielder would be a physical attacker, but Samurott excels in special attack for some reason.

If they had straightened Samurott to be Bipedal and turned it into a water/fighting, and made Emboar a quadruped Fire/Ground Boar, I think more people would enjoy the 5th gen starters.

It dont matter to me much either way, as Emboar is my favorite fire starter anyways and Samurott really isint terrible enough to put any effort into hating it.

I like Samurott the most man. I feel like it becomes more of a "beast-like" creature as it evolves rather than become more humanoid like everything else.

It has elements of the giant otter as well, so it's not like it loses the otter thing completely.

I think Samurott is hated because of wasted potential. He also has an awkward looking design. His body is oddly shaped and the shell helmet he is wearing should have continued as a shell along his back. As it stands, his helmet just looks like a big spherical retard helmet.

The theme is "water ninja with crustacean shells as part of his design," and that could have been used for something like an awesome bipedal ninja with a shell-sword or something like that. I think Dewott should have evolved into something that looks a lot like Dewott minus nubile features and with added shell-armor and other intimidating design features.

the issue with the oshawott line is that they're making a samurai theme mon and turn it into a quadrupedal is mind-boggling. this doesn't mean that there is no way of making a four-legged creature to wield weapons and other stuff (eg: Okami for having the weapon to be just around Amaterasu body or just have the animal wielding its weapon with its mouth), but the they portray samurott is by wielding it with it's front arms while still in the position on it's fours. I wish I had some clips showing samurotts animation and how stupid it is, but I don't have any, so take my word for it.
