This, there's only three ghosts in gen1 and they're all the same line, doing poison monotype and then throwing in a Gengar would make a lot more sense.

For what purpose? Gengar was good for Special, but Ghost type was busted in gen1 and you'd just have 6 Gengar anyway.
You may as well do Poison, but why would you do that in gen1 aside from masochism?
