A-Sandslash is the best Slush Rush user which gives it a niche nothing else really has. Many key resistances plus access to Earthquake give it a better niche than Bearctic, while Rapin Spin ensures it's half decent. Plus this gen we got not one but two new Snow Warning users, together with Abomasnow and Aurorus means this thing can be used easily. I can see it being used in RU.

I had a good time in the Battle Tree with a Specially Defensive A. Golem as my lead, though mainly just for pointy rocks.

However, if he DID survive to turn 2, or I was able to switch him out, then that Boosted Electric Stab Explosion took out pretty much anything that didn't resist it.

A-sandslash is only good when Hail is up while having Slush Rush. Other than that he's garbage.

It has very useful resistances and immunities, and decent physical bulk. It can also switch into all the Tapus except Fini and kill them without problems. It also has great offensive typing and can hit almost everything for neutral damage. It forces switches, but there's very little that won't take a good chunk of damage when switching in, unless you predict well. Also, Shadow Bone/Flare Blitz/Bonemerang can hit literally everything for neutral damage.

It's useful in the battle tree, too, with the proper support. Under Aurora Veil and with HP investment, almost nothing can one-shot it, save for STAB special water moves, and any hit it gets in will make a major dent in anything.

First of all, Sand Veil is not an option. Not particularly defensive either, and also works on sand just like Sand Force, but that's beyond the point since your twinky little brain can't even comprehend the hard stuff. You see, sweetie, Sand Veil is banned. No point mentioning it.

Second, Tangling Hair isn't really a defensive ability, just a shitty one. It's sort of like Static but more consistent with the Speed drop, it works better with an offensive mon than with a defensive one. Even if you had great bulk, what would you do with it? Defensive mons don't care about speed. It's obviously meant to activate on a resisted switch in. Dugtrio can do that with the Steel type and its number of resistances. But it's still very niche and horrible because once the opponent figures it out, it's worthless.

Sand Force is obviously the best choice. It's consistent, works great with its STAB's and its best coverage (Rock moves), and sand is even more easy to get started this gen with Gigalith as a new sand setter.

Ninetales should be higher purely due to the combination of Snow Warning, Aurora Veil and high speed. Setting up dual screens for seven turns in a single turn is amazing even if you get OHKO'd straight after.

There's really very little that's fast enough to OHKO or Taunt it before it can get Aurora Veil up, and once its up you're stuck with it unless you have Brick Break or something.
