No, I think it's acceptable for the winner to say it. Just like in sports, it can make someone feel better if the winner says "Hey you played a good game out there."
However, I hate it when people type "gg" in the chat after they set up a sweeper or some shit. That IS rubbing it in, and basically predicting your victory before it even happens. I've had people say "gg" when I had 3 Pokemon left because they just set up a couple dragon dances or whatever. That's rude, and it's always extra fun to turn the match around and beat someone who says "gg" early in the match.

The thing is in Showdown specifically people never say it after they win unless it's a tournament or something. Most of the time I see people say GG when they set up their sweeper or are about to KO the last 2 pokemon you have or something. The game basically is over at that point but it still seems like poor form.

Maybe it's because I come from a Starcraft background but the general rule is that you only say GG if it was a really good game or else it seems insincere, and it's preferable if the loser says GG first because he's acknowledging the loss and accepting it, while the winner saying GG first seems like boasting. And you never say GG unless the game has actually ended.

Personally I really don't give a fuck. If someone says GG or GL I'll return it but I don't go out of my way. And 90% of people never fucking say it so I have no idea what this "it's a rule" shit is.

I used to say GG whenever I lost a match but I stopped because it's either not returned or people are faggots and they say GG like five turns early then disconnect when you suddenly reveal Focus Sash and they lose their setup nigger.

What is it about Showdown that attracts the most petty of Pokemon players?

The only thing that pisses me off at this point is when I'm playing Randoms or something and retards start the timer before I even get the chance to look at my pokemon.
