My one and only problem with the games was the fact that you couldn't effectively train your pokemon so you were ALWAYS underleveled.

Still gives me flashbacks to fighting the minibosses who had legendaries on their team all 10 levels higher than me.

They were quite good games considering their era and platform, and the change in pace and tone is really nice if one did decide to play it. Oh you make me want to replay Colosseum. I actually never played GoD. I have the game though. Just bought it a month ago for cheap. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Maybe I'll give it a go.

The main character is off putting though after Wes, who honestly is the most badass Pokemon MC ever. He had a cool bike and a Espeon/Umbreon duo. God has a kid with a shitty scooter and an Eevee.

The games were not anything special.

The music was great, and they really nailed some of the Pokemon animations, the battles look nicer than what we have now on S/M.

That's kinda it though. One of the things that would have made them better would be if there had been actual "routes" in the games, with the standard NPC trainers spread and wild encounters. Instead you could only travel by selecting locations on a map which would take you to, what basically were, simple hubs.

Motherfucker had a sidecar for his Espeon and Umbreon bros. Doesn't get more awesome than that. Still, it's kinda short sighted to not play a game because the MC isn't as badass as the previous one. I'll probably start GoD tomorrow. Need something else to do besides grinding the E4 on Sun for my lv100 mons and grinding VGC ranked.

I fucking loved Colosseum though. So I'll probably love GoD too. Also, best Eevee for that game? I assume you can get stones somewhere to evolve it. I kinda like Vaporeon myself since its really reliable ingame and in competitive teams imo.

Yeah you get Thunder,Water and Fire stones pretty early on, or you can chose from a Sun or Moon Shard which compensate for there being no day or night, it's still by happiness though for those two.

You can catch a Togepi with Tri-Attack in that game. I actually still have that pokemon. It's a Togekiss now and it's excellent trolling material. The motherfucker who thought that giving Tri-attack to a pokemon with Serene Grace was a good idea was obviously an evil man.

Tri-Attack Togekiss is the only reason I was upset at the Togepi line becoming Fairy in Gen 6. Helping Hand Togetic was the biggest reason I was frustrated at the pentagon rule for VGC. They absolutely did wonders for that line's future without even knowing it at the time.

overrated would imply anyone ever talks about them here. Considering they're the only main console games that have an actual plot and don't pander to gen 1 like Game Freak does constantly (due to the fact the weren't made by Game Freak and were made to make catching gen 2 pokemon possible), it's one of the few things gen 3 did right. They're not perfect but they were a step in the right direction for taking Pokemon into main consoles. Too bad Game Freak said fuck that keep it portable, and we haven't gotten anything similar since.
