The narrow, wide-set eyes, the pointy chins, the total babe that was Nurse Joy? Everything so shiny and bright now.
>>31023423
Yeah it's funny how the art direction got worse as the series went on, everything going digital didn't help.
>>31023423
Tbqh same with Dragon Ball
The pallet's saturation is very bland and non natural
In some of the same ways I miss old animation in general, I suppose.
But I actually really like SM's artstyle.Special is better anyways, who cares
>>31025572
That's called nostalgia and don't use fucking BW, a over 6 years old series as examples.
>>31025598
I don't think it gets much better if you use the current stuff
>>31025598
X and Y was very good in general for a video game tie in anime
>>31025630
"""better""" . Nostagiashitting doesn't hold any weight.
Not at all
>>31025630
It does though. DP and BW and problems with it being bright and shiny because it was when they began using digital animation. XY and SM doesn't suffer even close to the same as DP or BW. XY for having a higher budget and much better use of the current artstyle while SM has a completely new artstyle that is pretty shitty in my opinion but still gives them access to a more fluid and expressive animation and is certainly not "shiny or bright".
>>31023423
No, I hate those thin eyes it makes them look too far apart. But I pick those eyes over those eyes without sclera any day.
However, in general I think the old style is better.

IKR

In Johto they started using digital.
I know this is bait, but so many bait post so suddenly hurt my soul
>>31025874
Wasn't it Ho enn?
>>31026072
It was very very late Johto, between the 8th gym and the league.
This pic is from the last pre-digital episode.
>>31026150
And here's a shot from the next episode preview at the end of it.
>>31026160
Yeah that's exactly it
>>31025673
I missed that Ash already, I hope he improves during SM, after all the writers should have noticed that the anime was slightly more successful when Ash appears as a good trainer. Maybe he will start too change by the next season since the first was already written at that point
>>31023423
Didn't this happen with anime in general?
I miss it. The new style is too clean and sterilized looking. I have the same problem with Dragon Ball.
>>31026150
>>31026160
End of Johto was too bright, Ash and Gary's last battle was also filled with quality
>>31025673
I'm not the only one who thinks the perspective is fucked in this shot, right?
When the switched to digital, it's like the show lost that "charm" it had. You get what I mean? Like I always find myself replaying the OS episodes, not the Hoenn or DP ones. And I didn't grow up with OS. DP was my first.
>>31028885
You're one of the good ones, Raised with inferior anime, but not corrupted by it.
>>31028959
>says the person playing Pokemon
While we're talking about animation changes, I noticed that they changed the style a little bit during late DP. It was different from the style they used from late Johto to DP but it wasn't the full bright change like it was during BW.

Genwunner pls go
>>31029017
Gen I through III er, thank you very much.
>>31029050
Go back to Facebook.
>>31029126
One fails to see how Cackbook is relevant but ok.
No, I always thought the thin eyes looked awful
>>31025673
This animation is just godly, better than the movies really.
>>31025598
Glowing shit is the benchmark of good art design.
>>31028885
The writing style changed and lot of visual gags or hard slapstick got toned down.
They also cut down on cultural allusions quite a bit. Though I think that's more from orders from above than the art style.
>>31023423
Of course, the anime in the last years is fucking garbage
>>31023423
>digital animation is worse than hand/drawn animation
More at 10
>>31023423
>>31026876
This. Anime art looks shittier now than it did 10-15 years ago. The animation has generally greatly improved, but the art itself isn't nearly as good.
>>31023423
90s anime > modern digital crap
>>31034632
>They also cut down on cultural allusions quite a bit. Though I think that's more from orders from above than the art style.
It was. But they've starting to bring those back now, since the west isn't really treating the anime as the major advertisement tool it used to.
Pic related is from an episode that's not even a year old.
>>31023423
The games need the anime's saturated palette, and the anime needs the games' washed-out palette.
>>31036044
Too true. I got an eyesore just by looking at Liza.
