perhaps they gave him a "break" from ORAS after seeing his work with XY

RGB was Tajiri all the way writing and directing, GSC was Toshinobu writing with Tajiri directing, RSE the director spot changed to Masuda and he wanted to shake up the approach to the evil team thing, DP is pretty consistent with RSE, the localization team gave Toshinobu a lot of criticism on the plot of DP so he tried to step it up for Platinum, BW1 Masuda wanted a more elaborate story and tasked Toshinobu with the writing for the outline he wanted, BW2 Masuda had an outline again but didn't work as closely not being the director, XY Masuda didn't want to focus on story as much so it was back to roughly RSE/DP level, SM Ohmori wanted to really push his multiverse hinting shit for the sake of fan speculation so story focus went up again as well as greater character focus reacting to fan criticism of XY's horrendous characterization

The quality has never been particularly good but who fucking cares about the writing in a Pokemon game? The plots are always schlocky fun and has some well written jokes, fine by me if he writes every Pokemon game.

to be honest kanto and johto were plained the best, always when I'm playing newer gen I have feeling that they tried way too hard and it has ruined the entire adventure thing... I wish we had more freedom and cool overworld npc's events before plot triggering something as empty as in first games but still filled with content... for example; if you enter the town for the first time, there's no event, but if you enter it second or third time during the same day (afternoon, night, whatever), there's appearing new npc or it triggers some interesting plot
