There was a government report in 2002 that said there would be a need for pharmacists. All throughout the late 2000's people went into it to fill that need. The problem is that people got greedy and pharmacy schools opened up in excess. On top of that, with the Great Recession, many pharmacists did not retire and have still not retired due to the job not being as physically taxing on older pharmacists.

Also it is nothing like Nursing. Nursing will forever have a need and will forever have turnover due to nurses constantly being hired, fired, and retiring.

Pharm.D's do not have a low value degree, just that there are not enough fucking jobs for new grads.

Of course there's a lot of demand since almost everything has an informatic system now and theres tons of web-based enterprises right now, but almost everywhere CS schools pop up in huge amounts. I think by the time I'm retirement age, the degree will have gone through enough ups and downs that it won't really matter. But with a general degree I'm going to suffer the same difficulties people with HS educations now put up with.

No, value is not determined by the academic complexity or scientific legitimacy of the degree (of which I'm sure Pharm.D's have plenty of). If the market was just desperate for, I don't know, underwater basket weaving and there were new jobs opening up everywhere for underwater basket weaving then a degree in underwater basket weaving would be high value.

This is economics and simple return on investment. It's not a high value degree if you can't find a job with it because all the jobs that use that degree are filled.

What you have are people who spent their last 22+ years of their life in some combination of schooling, with limited professional work experience. They finish school, become pharmacists, and then are flustered they can't make six figures in the city they've grown up in for their entire lives.

Saturation is not complete and exhaustive. Opportunities exist for those willing to be mobile and consider unusual opportunities; protip - the more unusual the opportunity, the higher the salary.

I know people with engineering degrees that gripe they make middling salaries but don't look into opportunities to work in the middle east and make $100k+. No sympathy. I'd be doing it myself, but there's no intense demand for a Biology degree.

The first is, to think what the kids do in the games is possible in real life. It's not.
