I like that one for smogon but i've been using a similar set with just waterium z for the battle tree and it works efficiently. Also its a great duo with Tapu Kek and a bulky physical attacker.

I think you should focus on STAB attacks for BB Greninja, unless you don't have anything else to hit Toxapex/Mega Venu. Hydro Pump is a neccesity because of the raw power, while Water Shuriken is one of the best priority attacks in the game and makes Gren easily defeat faster threats, most of which are scarfed and have poor sp. defense. Dark Pulse is another great STAB, reliable and with a flinch chance. Ice Beam for last since it lets Gren wreck many stuff.

It was so satisfying when my Hyper Trained Ash-Greninja got me past 50th battle on several ocassions, it was totally worth the effort because I received bottle caps for each session from the Battle Tree lady along with other great items like Abilty Capsule and Starf Berry.

Greninja used to be my favorite Pokemon but this thing ruined it.

It was maybe justifiable if Bond Phenomenon was actually a new mechanic, but no, it really was just a special snowflake anime asspull that they shoehorned into the game as an afterthought.
And for what? What was even the fucking point of it if Ash lost all the same? He literally could have used regular Greninja and everything would play out the same way. Even after mastering it, he lost the exact same way to Alain. The whole thing was a gigantic waste of time.

Also, the only way you can get another Ash-Greninja is if you delete your save, even if you delete the demo and finish it all over again, you still can't transfer that Greninja. It's one per save.

Where did I blame Greninja? I'm blaming the writers. They forced this dumb form and his shitty arc.

The battles would not have been any different with regular Greninja, though granted the big shuriken was cool. Except you see regular Greninja using it in the last episode.

I'm not just going to swallow whatever shit they shove down my throat. They fucked up. They went out of their way to give Ash a special snowflake win condition, which was bad enough, only for it to lose to a conventional mega. In the same exact way it lost the first time. It made Ash and Greninja look ten times worse than they would without it (figuratively and literally) since they lost despite having this special snowflake advantage, and it made the training a complete waste of time. It was incredibly sloppy writing.

I know this ability even includes a transformation but Castform, Cherrim, Darmanitan, Aegislash and Wishiwashi change their forms via ability too, so what's so special about Ash-Greninja?

Anyone can use Greninja choosing one of those two abilities

And even then, Pikachu has the experience of 5 regions (at the time) so it was relatively plausible for a good, objective win against a mega. Froakie was a fresh mon and needed something for more intense battles instead of the overused muh torrent/blaze/overgrow shit.

Come on, Protean-Greninja is better than Ash-Greninja. Ash-Greninja is the strongest Greninja in the anime only because hidden abilities doesn't exist but Greninja itself (protean or BB) is already mega-tier.

In the game. That's not how the anime works. Again, the form had no basis in the games until after the fact, it was designed first and foremost for the anime to give Ash a special snowflake "mega." This should be really fucking obvious, since even the afterthought game version of the ability is inherently tied to an anime-only character.

You also touched on another point: they could have easily given him Protean Greninja, which has tons of interesting applications, instead of forcing this thing for no good reason.

That unlike their Abilities, this gives Greninja a +110 Base Stats. That's not a normal ability.
Wishiwashi is a understandable case. It is too weak normally. It's just a gimmick in place of a evolution. But Battle Bond isn't. It's a broken ability that any and every Pokemon can benefit from, yet it was given only to Pokemon that was already strong.

Personally I found luck with a Greninja/Tapu Koko duo since you need to hit fast and strong as you can, Tapu Koko's speed and boosted thunderbolts can 2OHKO almost everything, while Ash-Greninja should be for 'late game', cleaning mess Tapu Koko couldn't finish and transforming in the process, then proceed to finish the last opponent(s). Plus obviously a physical attacker as the third member for those pesky special walls.

That's not how it works. It's an ability ban, not a Pokemon ban. It just so happens that only one Pokemon has the ability. Aura Break Zydog is still allowed because Aura Break isn't banned.
