As someone whose favorite Pokemon is Absol, lemme tell you... There's no using it without the mega stone. Fourth gen was a kind meta game for it, but nowadays it cant do shit without its Mega. At least the mega evolution speed changes let it not have to run protect on turn one anymore.

It's the only egg move that's worth it IMO, and once you have it on one, you have it on all, so I thought I might as well. Plus hits dark and fighting nicely, while scaling off Absol's main stat. All in all, a good non stab, pure damage move

That is really the biggest issue with why Mega Absol isn't used; it takes up a mega slot. If it were a regular evolution it would be fire.

Speaking of Fire, don't underestimate a mixed set. I've gotten a lot of kills with Fire Blast mega Absol with no investments in sp attack. If it doesn't kill it at least takes things down to 75%. People try to bring Steel types and suck in on Absol because they don't know what it runs.

I just remembered that of all the "Edgy, pain, gritty, angry" entries in the pokedex for the mega evolutions, Absol's was basically just... "It's wings don't actually let it fly."

Basically yeah, Absol's biggest fault is how fragile it is. If you get a chance to set up, you are GOING to start sweeping. Even if you don't take out every pokemon, just having a 2+ attack boosted absol with sucker punch and possibly play rough just... it basically fucks everything. Especially since steel stopped resisting dark type moves.

Y'know, it's only now just dawning on me, but I think people who like Absol tend to be some of the nicest people in the fandom.

Yeah there's a fair few that want to fuck it, but even that is treated lightly. And by all accounts, Absol fans SHOULD comprise of edgy brooding loners, yet it doesn't seem that way at all.

Anyone around here still got the Colosseum Shadow Absol these days? It's my go-to ribbon collector.

I love the design of mega absol but getting rid of its only niche as the only mon that can always crit without setup always griped me. buffing absols speed to break 100 wouldve been alot better than using a mega as a cop out to be quite honest.

So how do you think Absol predict natural calamities anyway? I always thought the horn on its head was covered with extremely sensitive, very short hairs. Like an Espeon's fur, the horn senses the air surrounding it, "feeling" the air to a degree we can't conceive. An Absol's horn isn't so much a horn, as much as a radarlike mechanism.

The subtlest changes in the air and even in the earth, it can feel, and that's how it knows in advance when something big is coming. It can forecast the weather and even walk around with its eyes closed because it can feel air bouncing off nearby objects, sort of like echolocation. It doesn't need to turn around to know you're standing behind it. Even if it couldn't feel your body, it would feel the air passing through your lungs.

But the downside of this, (or so my headcanon states,) is that its horn is far TOO sensitive, to the point where it would incapacitate Absol with pain if you so much as gripped the horn tightly. It's filled with blood inside, and would start to bleed and bruise if you so much as squeezed it a few seconds.

This is also partially why they go off alone in the mountains. They don't want to be around bustling environments, they're too sensitive and it's overwhelming.
