Does anyone else feel like the Pokemon games lost their charm after like the first or second generation? I really like their glitchy nature, the simplicity of the game mechanics, the buffer underflow issues and DV's instead of IV's and stat experience instead of EVs.
I don't like having hundreds of pokemon to choose from, or weird minigames and personalities and affection. I like that the DVs are used to calculate gender and shininess.
I feel like I can't wrap my head around the newer games, not like with the old ones.
idk man. I just like running around and filling out the dex lmao

>Basically "I like broken or buggy as hell mechanics"
Well, nostalgia can't be helped.

Nope.

I never played the first or second generation games when I was a kid. The third generation were the first games I played.

>A broken game is c-charming cause nostalgic!
worse than comfyfags

It's not (necessarily) about being broken. It's about for example, if I know the Health DV, I can figure out if the other DV's are even or odd since the Health DV is created using the least significant bit in the other DVs.
Maybe I'm just being narrow-minded, but I don't get that same feel with the newer games, like I'm actually learning all the ins and outs of the game, and solving it like a puzzle. Not just in figuring out good teams and playing competitively, but actually grasping the entirety of the game, all its algorithms, and weird code quirks.
Does that shit still happen in the newer games?

i'm pretty sure that was your experience for playing a pokemon game for the first time in general, nothing to do with 1st or 2nd gen
it's not really tied to the games themselves, but rather when you started to play them
each game has that magical feeling of when you play them for the first time, and you pretty much never get to experience that same magic feeling no matter how many new sequels/remakes you play or how many times you replay it
i experienced this with Terraria, my first playthrough of that game was so much fun, discovering all the different weapons and bosses was amazing, but each time I replay it I don't get that same magical feeling I had on my very first run, but the game is still fun on replays. Just not as good as the very first time

w-what is that kitter doing in that sock
>>30971178
Definitely lost charm, but many things have been improved so they gain in other ways.
