Basically, it didn't really go for the low-hanging fruit that Pokemon parodies typically feast on. It's been awhile since I've seen it and I'm not going to look it up now, but the episode centered on one Tinymon in particular, considered the weakest of the bunch, bonding with Johnny and evolving into its ultimate form to help him win a battle. What made the whole thing really weird was that, as my pic in >>30974206 points out, they used Shadow Lugia of all Pokemon as the basis for the main Tinymon's design.

In other words, they slapped Magikarp's story on Shadow Lugia, made it into a good thing for the hero, and portrayed Pokemon and Pokemon battling as a wholesome and fun experience for all involved, with a big "don't give up on your bros" message. It was a kinder sort of parody and it worked.

It was kinda good until they intentionally deviated from the real storyline only to add drama, around the Snorlax in the bridge.

Yeah, the mc is pitiable and the rest of the cast are assholes but nothing seems logic from a game-wise perspective.
It's like the guy wanted to write a tragedy and intentionally played with all those death's timings just to add the "sadness".
