1.) Game Freak is not going to push their beloved franchise into such a sharp and jarring tonal shift. A "mature" Pokémon game is going to be T for Teen at most.
2.) Violence and gore does not equate to maturity. What mature audiences want is a story that comes across as realistic in its social issues e.g. government authoritarianism vs personal freedom, crises of faith, the struggle of the poor vs the power of the rich, the constant search for one's purpose in life, finding a way to pay the bills while pursuing your dreams or trying to raise children ect.

People want a story that isn't going to shy away from all the troubles we deal with in reality, but that does mean devolving into some edgy grimdark fantasy. Just don't treat your audience like idiots (lol where did this egg come from; fuck education let's send our kid out into the world at the age of 11) and you're already on the path to an acceptably mature story.

this guy gets it, there are a lot of good stories and conflicts you can defang enough for an E-rated audience that still don't come off as contrived bullshit to older players, and decreasing hardware limitations are only going to make things better, a lot of the dumbest moments in the games come from missing context, like overly cooperative bad guys being stared down by a team of six supernatural animals with an insatiable bloodlust, for example

Not everything has to be "mature".
Things can be "mature" without being dark or edgy.
Being dark or edgy =/= "mature".

Having the right themes and execution make things "mature", and those are things that would make you think, make you take pause, things that move you emotionally.

You can find "mature" things in many genres if you know what your looking for, just most people don't understand what "mature" means.
